Eshaver Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 Doug, uh there are a couple of ways . First if you have a hobby store nearby Poly- S has a grimy black paint that works well. It's actually a semi gloss black with a hint of metallic thrown in . I could make it by adding some Black , a little Grey and then add some Testors Pearl metallic to the mix. You don't want a "cold Black" . Use some metalizer paints like Burnt metal and Gun metal too. Ed Shaver
59 Impala Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 Doug, I've used Tamiyas smoke for some pretty good results. It's a transparent black and looks like leaky trans and engine stuff. Here are a some of pics of what I'm talking about. Hope these help ya.
Ryan Quantz Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 For fresh oil I use a dark brown in a semi-gloss. I layer it and let it pool in the direction gravity would pull it. For older oil I do the same and just before the paint is dry to the touch I sprinkle it with "dirt" colored chalk-pastel dust. Depending on the desired effect, you can combine both techniques to simulate a long-time oil leak. For grease like in steering components, I do the same, but mix it a bit darker and apply the paint heavily. While the paint is fresh and wet I dab it generously with a dark brown chalk pastel powder. I repeat this a few times, then dab on some Flat clearcoat and sprinkle that with "dirt" and the dark brown powder. Might sound a bit confusing, but here's my results.
