Buolding style called "Hottentotti" was popular in Finland late 70`s and 80´s. I am not sure where it comes orginally, but maybe you recognise something similar from your country too from those days. I was little kid in 80`s but i remember these cars from streets and some of them were even in magazines. Somebody hated them and someone else loved them. They looked like some Hotwheels cars but they were real cars. Fuzzy dices and "Tigerskin" covered seats and everything "cool" were part of them. They were mostly like running parts store catalogs. I never liked them, but becouse its part of hotrodding history i must build one

So here is my start for this sucker

Ford guys please dont shoot me of ruining this baby  I am happy that is not 1:1

Sounds like it will be an interesting build. Probably not my taste in cars, but as you say, it's part of the history. Are the seat covers paint or is that a custom decal?

Thanks guys!

For seats, i first painted them orange, then i took flat brush and touch painted some black and white sripes on them. Kind of dry brushing :P

This is not my taste building style, but it sure is eye catcher in my shelf when its finished

Some more progress.

Floor color is last hint of "orginal" interior color. I maybe paint it later or leave it like that

Yes its going to have some Stars&Sripes here and there :) First i painted consol with blue and red, i paint white later.

White chassis was just one "must have" thing on these cars.

Wow. Those seats are "loud". Not my cup of tea, either. Having said that, the '66 Galaxie 500 is one of my all-time favorites. I can't wait to see the finished result.

Thank you!

This is nice kit to work with, some details could be better but its good enough. This is going to have some typical details from street and show cars, like i pic my memories of them to this one model. So they were not this horrible all, but worst of them were close. Some of these details were used mostly in European or Japanese make cars, but i add them too becouse they were part of those times too. Its custom mix of them all :)

Wheels & tyres.

Soundsystem stickers were must in Japanise and European make cars, but sometimes could see in US make cars.

Sidepipes of course.

Totally nutty! Have no fears though. In the US, we had plenty of "Parts Catalog" cars running around.

Can you say JC Whitney?

Looks great, especially the seat treatment. Well done.

Am i right but this kit has manual tranny but it still has automatic pedals? I leave them like they are but it should fix if you want accurate build

Come on, man. With a short piece of plastic strip and stretched sprue, you've got a clutch pedal.

Okey sir! This build has many scrach items so that is not big deal to do. I do it

Sounds like a cool model...but wow...that interior :o:unsure:

BTW- have you seen this 1964 Cadillac? Leopard skin paint in the flames!

Thank you! That Caddy is pretty cool. I would replace that Kenwood sticker with something nicer. I have always liked flames with black paint, it is closer to my taste. Hmm i have almost untouched Johan 64 Caddy convertible in my shelf, well let see that later

That's a '63 Caddy, no?

Yes its `63. Google knows :D `64 is almost similar looking to me so that could be done from 64 Johan kit. Now i know that Kenwood sticker thing too, its somekind of showcar for introduce Kenwood soundsystems. Still i dont like it, thats no no thing for sweet custom build Cadillac like that. Also interior would be nicer with backseats but i would take it anyway

More progress

I decited to do all pedals from scratch so first i covered those molded in automatic pedals with cardboard. I realized that brush what i used for repainting wasnt clean but then it was good for do some weathering in floor, It had hint of black and i used that light blue and brushed it away leaving that black here and there. It looks pretty good to me.

New pedals. They are not perfect but maybe look ok when painted satin black.

Details003-vi.jpgHosted on Fotki

Rubber carpets are almost finished. I paint those wires satin black, white or red. I decide that later.

Got any smokes? :D

Floor and carpets has matt finish, they are still wet in pics ;)

This project looks kind of like a Swedish style "raggarbil" "Raggare" are the beer drinking hoodlums, except the driver of course. Interesting details, Janne. You did a good job with the seats and door panels. I have a friend who's '64 Valiant is almost a time warp, at least when it comes to the Back Off mud flaps! I built a typical Swedish "raggarbil" many years ago, based on a '64 Impala. Looks like this:

Your project inspired me to buy a '66 Galaxie 500 off ebay. :D

That is nice to hear  This is pretty good kit to work with some nice optional parts. Chassis could be better but ive seen worse. Also i dont like that molded in pedals and doorpanels but you can work with them. All in all this kit has potential to build any kind of Galaxie witch you can imagine from Hottentotti`s to Lowriders and from Factory stocks to Racers. Go for it and build it ;)

Thank you Hans, your "raggarbil" looks just like they are, many of them arent even good looking like that. My build sure has some similar things with Swedish car culture becouse many ideas come from there to here in early days. When there was not internet most of ideas come from northern Sweden in here were i live. Only 20 kilometers to Finland-Sweden customs.
