mackinac359 Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 Here are some updates on several projects: The Hybrid Peterbilt getting polishing a bit after curing for a week. I polished the cab with 3M rubbing compound and 3M cleaner wax. Next is the 386 with full chassis fairings. This has been a perplexing model - first fabricating the chassis fairings, then finding the correct color. I had ordered the paint from Tower Paint in Oshkosh, Wisconsin but never heard anything from them.. and then did some research and found that the business is closed after a devastating fire in early February. I found a company in Louisiana called Automotive Touchup - a division of Microfinish LLC. For a bit more than Tower's prices they mixed the color I needed. Here's the base coat on the 386. I was quite concerned that the color was too dark for what I wanted. Even after applying the clear coat, the color still looked too dark - until I took the parts out into natural light (overcast sky). This is quite the funky color! It seems to have a mind of its own. The paint from AutomotiveTouchup goes on nicely but requires multiple coats to achieve coverage and proper metallic. I ordered this with small metallic flakes to look more in scale. Additional pics are on my "On the bench" page on my siteTimstrucks.com. Thanks for looking. Tim
Kostas Parchas Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 Hey Tim, The Viper green looks awsome. The strange green on the 386 is fantastic!!! In the second photo, even also Rorry (is that corect???) your dog, looks confused with this strange color LOL PS: looking all your last builds, 378s 379s 386s 389s and now this ''full'' aero 386 I thing that know is the corect time for you to build one modern 53ft trailer... it would add that rolling_on_the_highway feeling. Kostas.
mackinac359 Posted March 14, 2010 Author Posted March 14, 2010 Kostas, Yes, that's Rory. I noticed that she was centered in the sleeper opening so I called her name so she'd look up, then I snapped the pic. This weird green now has its 3rd coat of clear on it and will cure before I do anything else on it. Tim Hey Tim, The Viper green looks awsome. The strange green on the 386 is fantastic!!! studioman3 Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Tim, That looks great, it's real shiny, out of curiosity, for the rubbing compound, cleaning wax, and carnuba wax,, is that done high speed, or just by hand? Thanks Tim
mackinac359 Posted March 16, 2010 Author Posted March 16, 2010 Purely by hand. An old soft T-shirt and lots of elbow grease. Tim Tim, That looks great, it's real shiny, out of curiosity, for the rubbing compound, cleaning wax, and carnuba wax,, is that done high speed, or just by hand? Thanks Tim
