Jon Cole Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 I want to start a beat car, and it would have completely shot seats. The fabric is gone in some spots, with metal coils showing. I mean at least 75% of the seat is metal framework. How would I do that? Thanks.
Nick Winter Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 Well a bunch of ball point clicky pens some paper clips, something to attach them togther and a lot of time
diymirage Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 also keep in mind that you want to make the fabric look ripped what i like to do is paint the seat and then put a napkin over it then i paint the napkin and ford it back when the seat is ripped once that dries i get my nasty orange paint out and paint the foam showing under the rip
Ben Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 I have worked on many types of automotive seats over the years even reupholstering a few along the way. I don't think i've ever seen a seat with round coil type springs? Rather, every seat i've seen has spring steel wire, usually in the form of a string of "S's" or "Z's" that run across from side bolster to side bolster. Then foam padding is placed on top. The seat covering is usually stitched in a way that it forms the contours of the seat along with the shape of the foam underneath. When I think of seats that i've seen that were badly worn, all I can remember sticking out was the tan foam. Maybe some strips of duct tape trying to keep it in.
Railfreak78 Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 Jon if you have a Hobby Lobby by you I'd go to the section where they carry hot glue guns. There is a hobby wire in different sizes. you could get the smallest one and wrap it around a toothpic or smaller thing pull them off, trim them and paint them. Thats what I did with my rear coil springs with a larger wire for my 70 Super Bee. The small one is very very thin.
Ben Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 Here is what I need to replicate... Ahhhhh, my bad, I was thinking front seats. Come to think of it, I think my camaro rear seat looks like the one in your pic.
