Some of you do this and some of you don't so I say thanks to those who don't. I am forced to use a dialup due to financial reasons and it takes a long time to view pics as it is without viewing the same set of pics two or even three times in one thread. As a small favor to me and maybe some other dialup users on this forum (if there is anyone left but me in the world still using a dialup) please do us a favor and try not to quote pics.

TIA

Already have a sticky of this in the Rants/Raves section.

Of course, you can tell who doesn't read the stickies. B)

I didn't realize there was a thread in that section of the forum as I rarely visit rants and raves. I try to avoid rants or getting involved with others rants. Just trying to keep my hobby as positive and fun as possible that's all.

I'm with oldscool on this one, too. I use a dial-up service 'cause it's free and those big pics can take a long time to come up. Would be nice if all the forums posted pics would come up as initially as thumbnails and could then be opened to full size upon request by the viewer.

Joe, that could probably be done, but the speed could still be slow due to the amount of data needed to have the pic on the site to begin with.

For example.............if a 1200 pixel pic were to be resized into a thumbnail, the amount of time needed to see it could still be longer on dialup, because the pic's file size is still the same even though the pic itself is shrunk down to 120x50 pixels. :)

So we have a request here from a member to the rest of us to please stop quoting pictures...

and we're quoting pictures in this very same thread??? :)

Perhaps some don't realize that these threads have TWO ways to reply?

Each post has its own "Reply" button. Or, go all the way down to the bottom of the threads, and there is a "Add reply" button.

The first way recycles the entire content of the post in your reply.

The second way, is just your reply. No recycled photos or text included.

That's right. The "reply" button at the bottom of the last post actually works as a "quote" button. To reply without quoting the last post you need to go all the way to the bottom and use the "Add Reply" button.

I don't even like the quoting of pics, and I have DSL. When ever I quote a post that has pics in it. I remove the pic's URL from the quote before I post. That way the words from that post are quoted in my reply, but not the pics. It takes a short amount of time and I make that apart of the time that everyone should take in the proof reading of your post. Along with spell checking before you hit the "Add Reply" button. That way you do not end up looking like a kamikaze thread poster/replier.

BTW the spell check does not work for me on this message board and a few others. So I cut and paste what I just wrote. Go to my e-mails. Check it there and do my corrections. Then cut and paste again and put it back here. I don not mind the time it takes to do all of that because I want everyone to understand what I am writing. Plus, I do not look like I quit school after the 7th grade. You can tell that I waited till I got half way through the 10th grade before I quit! :D

Sorry for going a little off subject but I think it all goes hand in hand with what we are talking about here.

I don't have dial- up but I have a slow, old laptop and it bugs me too to have to see the same pix two or three times. It sure makes getting through a post a lot longer. Glad someone brought it up. And again, not a rant. Just a request (because, in all honesty, it's not going to keep me from lookin'). Thanks.

Your computer isn't the determining factor, your internet connection is. Doesn't matter what computer you have, it's your internet connection that determines how fast (or how slow) a website loads.

Not entirely true Harry, connection is most important, but hard drive speed and free space can be contributing factors. Modlbldr - on your browser go to TOOLS / Internet Options and clear temporary internet files and delete cookies. both of these can slow douwn 'net speed.

Agreed. I spent 3 hours last night cleaning my daughters computer. We share the same DSL connection but her computer was so filled with "EXTRAS" from all these kid sites that she had 78 active processes! :( Some updates and removal of programs and now she has 30 processes and her computer is three times as fast.

Geez, I had no idea this post would generate so many responses. Thanks everyone and I have noticed that more people are not including pics in their quotes already.

A few weeks back, I opened a thread for exactly the same reason as this. Obviously, it was equally ignored as this one will be.
