MADmodelDOCTOR Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 Good evening fellows, Should I spray this stuff on clean, bare plastic, or should I put primer under it? Thanks for the help. Later
LoneWolf15 Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 Ken , Shoot it straight on , no primer needed . It dries in a matter of seconds and if you are using the buffing formulas , will shine up quite nice with a piece of soft cotton t shirt.
MADmodelDOCTOR Posted March 30, 2010 Author Posted March 30, 2010 Hey thanks, man. I'm in here working on a dragster and will be using the metalizers on the engine and frame, etc. My wife was suprised that "the guy from the DVD" responded to my question Anyway thanks. Later
MikeMc Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 A word of caution...if you use sealer the shine is duller...if you do not seal it..it likes to rub off when handling.
LoneWolf15 Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 Mike is correct ! Sealing it will dull it out . After it has been buffed out the transfer to your fingers is minimal. It does have to be handled gingerly, but the end results are fantastic . Be sure to clean your hands off after handling the parts and or glueing them in place . This way , if there is any transfer to your fingers , you won't get it on the rest of your model !
Dragline Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 If, however, you do have some surface scratches I suggest a primer first. This paint is EXTREMELY thin and will show EVERYTHING under it. If you are dealing with virgin plastic no worries. This is great paint but it will show the tiniest blemish underneath it. Bob
RatRod Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Everyone's right about using the sealer. I use it from the spray bombs myself (much easier) I buff it with diaper flannel after wards. It will rub off slightly, but if you handle it as little as possible you will be fine. Always make sure you do all your test fitting, and mock-up's beforehand, and always keep your hands clean!!! Another pointer that works well is if you possibly can polish the plastic with a triple grit polishing stick, do it, it will make a world of difference. Here is a Triumph engine that was done in metalizers, and buffed, no sealer.... Most of the parts on this dragster were done in different shades of metalizers...
MikeMc Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 John That dual Potty rail is over the top.....how about a couple of up close shots of the motors???
MADmodelDOCTOR Posted April 5, 2010 Author Posted April 5, 2010 Thanks for all the help. It is much appreciated. later,
