63special Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 Happy Easter to you all - even the atheists! Today I bought the 2006 issue Revell 1953 Chev Lowrider kit. It was the cheapest kit for sale, it was only A$47.50!! ...and you guys complain about the price you pay for the kits you buy from your LHS.......... Anyway, upon opening the kit box, I was thinking "do it lowrider suspension, with the stock wheels" untill the intructions called out that the stock wheels can't be used with the lowrider suspension!. D'oh!- I'm not one for building a kit with gold wheels, so I thought that this thing can only be built in the style that always puts a smile on my face: 'weathered' My intention is to build it with the finish that makes it look like it's been sitting out in the sun for too many years, and everything that could possibly be unbolted/unscrewed from the car already has been. It'll mean leaving all of the chrome parts off the kit, and adding styrene in places where there would be sheet metal on the 1:1 car, which leads me to a question I want to ask you... How can I replicate the headlight buckets in the front guards/fenders that remain after removing the headlight from the car? Meaning I don't want to just have a round hole in the fender unit with nothing behind it, I want to add 'something' behind the hole to make it look like it once had a headlight unit screwed into the fender. I'm looking for an easy way out to just add a half round 'thingy' to glue to the back of the opening of where the headlight should be. Then paint it matt black of course. I sincerely hope you understand the question! James.
Joker Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 (edited) Hey James, the Revell 36 Ford comes with two sets of headlight buckets, these can be cut down to size and attached to the back of the "holes" and then detailed with wires hanging out and whatever. hopes this helps James aka Kit Bash aka Joker Edited April 4, 2010 by kit bash
vaughn Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 Sounds to me as if you know what to do...you are just lookin for approval from the Gurus !! Just do what you think ! Use your skills, which obviously you have them, and just do it. You would not have come up with these ideas if you did not already know to some degree, what to do ! Who am I or anyone else to tell you what to do and then it comes out wrong? Or not to your liking. Just do it !!! Its a model car and its you and your time. Happy Easter !!!
RJWood Posted April 4, 2010 Posted April 4, 2010 (edited) Hi James, I will answer your question in a more mature and courteous manner than the last poster. I found this tip somewhere, can't remember where. But here goes. I will try to explain it as well as I can. Go to a craft store, I see you live in Sydney N.S.W. so you should be able to find the google eyes that are used for stuffed animals. It is a white circular disc with a smaller disc inside that is like the pupal of the eye. Over the top of this set-up is a clear dome shape that holds it together, that is the part you need. Cut it away from the circular disc, and you have your headlight bucket. Just paint it silver on the inside, you could even make a hole for wire leads to stick out. These google eyes come in various sizes and are not very expensive. Hope this is of some use to you. Cheers, Ron Did a search and here is what I'm talking about. Edited April 4, 2010 by RJWood
63special Posted April 4, 2010 Author Posted April 4, 2010 Thanks for the ideas guys! I would never have thought of either tipb both seem like excellent ideas. I didn't think Terry's response was insulting at all. I'm not worried about it anyway. Thanks again James.

Raydee Posted April 6, 2010 Posted April 6, 2010 If you remove the rear wheelwells you can use the lowrider suspension with the stock tires and wheels! That's what I did with that kit!
