This was my first attempt to spray a body with my airbrush and I'm fairly pleased with the result. But, I have a couple of issues. First, the tape line is more pronounced than I would like. I would like to sand it, but I'm afraid of creating a milky finish in the metallic paint. Second, I have some tiger stripping in the silver on the trunk. I'm tempted to sand the trunk and respray it, unless someone has a better idea. The metallic silver on the top and the red separation line is dupli color lacquer. The metallic gray on the bottom is a custom mix of Kustom Kolor by House of Kolor , which was thinned with Kustom Kolor Reducer.

looks good to me

to be honoust im not seeing the tiger stripe

as for the tape stripe, that is pretty common, 3 coats of clear should smooth that out

specially if you polish the clear B)

I would clean and respray the trunk..criss cross against the stripes and do a blend/fade into the sides so your color looks the same..silver is hard to blend without it getting darker.

Three coats of rattle can (Tamiya TS-13 or Testos One Coat lacquers), wetsanded and reapplied would smooth out the tape line. That is common on any multi-color paint job.

Tiger stripping is a common problem with metallics and there are some tips to reduce the effect. Thin your paint thinner than what you normally do for the last coat. Stay far away from the model (more than 6 inches) and spray in a circular motion, yes, circular...not back and forth. You risk a greater chance of stripping when you go back and forth like with a real car. Also, if you have access to full size automotive guns, the fan will be big enough for you to avoid the stripping effect.

Thin mist coats in circular motion will help a lot. You can practice on the back of a "For Sale" sign you can get at home depot pretty cheap.

Thanks for the tips. Before I shot the pictures I tried to spray more paint on the trunk and the dark areas just became darker. I will sand the trunk and respray it with your suggestions and clear it. I found that Kustom Kolors does not react well with lacquer clear. Apparently, it's some sort of hybrid enamel/lacquer. I shot spoon tests with Crystal Clear, an acrylic, and they turned out pretty well. So, I'll use the Crystal Clear and wet sand the tape lines as you guys suggested.
