Modelmartin Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 That is HI-larious! I looked at his other auctions. $488.88 for a S&M Superbird kit? He sells aquarium stuff. He must have stuck his head inside one for too long!
george 53 Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Duuuuhhhhh, Jeff, the answer is OBVIOUS!!! He claims to be an "Alien Aquarium" So he's REALLY WAY,WAAAAYYYYY out there! In Fact he's SOOOOO out there, even some of the crazies HERE can't touch him!!! the nerve of some of these sellers makes ya wonder if they're all there! And THEN the fool goes on to tell you WHY EMPTY boxes are so "Reasonably" priced! But ya know what they say,Jeff, "there's one born EVERY minute!" That goes for idiot sellers as well as buyers! Yeeesh!
Modlbldr Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 OOOOHHH!!! I'm all OVER THAT! Two EMPTY boxes (but I can buy the kits to go in them for extra from him)for $488. Sign Me Up!!!! Some people's kids! Later-
mikemodeler Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 P.T. Barnum once said...."There's a sucker born every minute" and obviously whomever bids on these boxes would fall into that category. If the guy can get the money for them, I guess we should be looking through our collections for old boxes!
diymirage Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 yes BUT consider this BOX BOTTOMS INCLUDED!!!!!!!!!!!!!! says right there in the description i mean, that makes it all worth it right ?
Railfreak78 Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 And to think that just last week I was outbid on the S&M Bird due to I had several bids going for my budget. The box AND kit I was bidding on went for a total of around $40 and the car was unbuilt. Am I missing something here? I agree time to just sell our old boxes. Should we make an old box trade section?
charlie8575 Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 A fool and his money are soon parted.... Or, are you kidding me?! What have you been smoking?! If it removes you that far from reality, I want some! Charlie Larkin
Howard Cohen Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 It says 'offers' so why not offer him $1 with a note saying that is all they are worth. They are not even in mint condition! Oh, I'm in Canada and the automatic shipping rate comes in at over $20. The most I ever paid for a vintage box was $5...that's my limit. I wonder how much his listing fee is
tuffone20 Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 WOW this guys is NUTS!!!!!!!! And just for kicks I put an offer in on the "RARE Never Seen Before" 4 Box set!!! And got this back................... We're sorry, but alien_aquarium has declined your Best Offer for US $4.00. You still have time to make another offer.
elan Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Obviously not a builder, he must think modellers are stupid or rich.
Harold Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Wow- $488 for two empty boxes. Apparently, this will go along with the empty head of whatever sap purchases said empty boxes.Morons. Ya gotta love 'em...
Jordan White Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 (edited) You know, I could see that much for the kits if they were complete and sealed. He wants almost 500 bucks for two empty boxes with minor damage on them? Love this part: Condition of the boxes are not new and not mint. But they are not garbage or bad quality! They have wear marks and a small tear here or there (all tears are clearly shown in photos). The cartoon box has some glue marks on the inside. You can see in picture that the corners have some wear marks. That is why they are great starting set and priced realistically. And FAQs: How is pricing determined? I specialize in Superbird kits and I watch the other sales. When I sell a kit for $200 after only 3 days, I raise my price. When it doesn’t sell after a few months I *might* drop my price. Simple supply and demand. Why buy from me? I have to buy most my kits not knowing how nice they are in real life. I estimate that for every 10 kits I buy, only one is exceptional and worth high dollar. The other nine I have to sell at market value: sometimes less than I invested. So when I find a good one, I appreciate how hard it is to find. I take the risk out of you buying your kit. You want no hassle and a vintage kit that is super rare? I offer that. You want to spend less? Shake the dice and buy from someone else. Edited April 7, 2010 by YJIslander
highway Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 What have you been smoking?! If it removes you that far from reality, I want some! Charlie Larkin It must be some pretty good stuff!! I want some, too! Glue just doesn't do anything for me anymore!!!
Chuck Most Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Let's see... I have several AMT annual kit boxes in various conditions, a few old JoHan and Heller boxes, one AMT Silhouette limited issue box, and a couple of Renwal boxes... holy jeez, maybe I can afford that 2010 Shelby GT500 I lust after!
hemithunder Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 It must be some pretty good stuff!! I want some, too! Glue just doesn't do anything for me anymore!!!
Jairus Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 Well, the boxes may be slightly over priced... but they are rare and I give him credit for not using the word "rare" in the title. Plus he is accepting offers and that is something. Actually for relatively the same money, I would rather buy this box as it contains something even rarer and worth much more!
Jim Gibbons Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 funny..no? My link Too, too funny. I just shook my head and grinned. In a related story, several years ago, I was at the Rhinebeck Antique Car Show in NY, and was wandering through the building that they put most of the model/ diecast vendors in. The vendor that specializes in Hess things had the '67? ship tanker model in mint shape, but didn't have the box. I told him I had a pretty good box (I still have the tanker, but stupidly did some detail painting on it back in the early 70's) and would he be interested. He was, and he offered $75! I sold him the box the next day! Maybe the box is worth more, but more than ten years later, he still has that Tanker for sale, with my box. I think he's asking over $1500 for the combo. That $75 got me a few neat kits and things. Long live the builders! Mmmmm...when I finish my 1/32 AMT/Revell '55 Chrysler New Yorker, I'm gonna have an empty box....
