slant6 Posted June 1, 2010 Posted June 1, 2010 (edited) I built these for my father at least ten years ago. A few days ago he asked me to fix them because over the years they have been knocked around and some parts have broken. Well, I decide to overhaul them. The 911 will stay the same, except with a better paint job and and a few other small details, engine wiring and what not, I just did out of box build that long ago. The Camaro will get a whole new paint job, some PE details, ect.,ect. Ive never disassembled a model (on purpose), or tried to do any "restoration", so I'm just looking for any insight you all may have. Edited June 1, 2010 by slant6
spkgibson Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 First carefully take them apart, and as far as stripping the old paint off,I use scale cote,It work like a dream, some others use castrol super clean,It also works great,by the photos you posted they should be very easy to restore...
slant6 Posted June 3, 2010 Author Posted June 3, 2010 OK, dis assembly of the Porsche went pretty easy. Already Ive run into a problem. Is there a way to get this decal off and use it over again? I don't think I even used a clear coat on this car so it should just be stuck down on the bare paint.
Modlbldr Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 Slant6- That is the decal I'm sending you. Also sending the PORSCHE decal that I believe goes across the back and a small one that says Turbo. I seriously doubt that you'll be able to re-use any decals. I've never heard of anyone doing it. There are many articles on this site about stripping paint and what best to use. However, since you sprayed it black it may take some time. Black seems to be the hardest to strip. If there are any other parts you need let me know. I have a spares kit of that Porsche that I've been pulling parts from. I know that you wanted to get this done by Father's day, but I'll be out of town for a week starting tomorrow. Later-
