Ben Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 Hello, I am currently using Tamiya two part putty with an automotive catalyst. (I think it came with some Evercoat putty) The putty works fine but it would work even better if I could thin the mixture so it will spread easier. Does anyone know what could be used that won't attack the plastic too much?
MikeMc Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 Is the putty too stiff w/o hardener? I would suggest using the bondo professional 2 part glazing putty
Van Halen Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 thats the biggest problem with modeling putty its not really flexible enough to shape a real nice design into .. BUT, what i do is.. i get some kitchen foil wrap it around a hot radiator/pipe what ever you can find thats too hot to touch but not burning hot, anyway put the foil on and place the putty ontop and keep messing with it so it doesnt set and it should eventually get really smooth and workable the kinda "hotter" it gets but its not too hot else it sets. (the foils used just to stop the putty sticking to my radiator and making a mess) so yeah you just need that perfect amount of heat for it the nicer it gets just make sure it doesnt set. also depending on what type of putty it is you could just test paint-thinner or nail polish remover ? could work
Ben Posted June 5, 2010 Author Posted June 5, 2010 Hey guys, thanks for the suggestions. Another member stated that he has really great results from a product called "Icing" from USC Autobody. I went out and picked some up. This stuff is really smooth even before adding the hardner!
