Hey guys, ive planned a project of making a race/track day car outta a 85' 1/24 monogram corvette i have bought..

The cars kits completely stock, i just wanted to know if anyone else has ever converted a model into a race car / track car ?

I think it will be a fun build, i have planned to build the roll cage out of toothpicks or the plastic from sprues, i am using some spair NISMO wheels, i have some number decals too !

Also has anyone made any arches/spoilers in general race parts and what out of ?

I am going to make it just like this below, except a bit more "race - looking" asin more body kit, bigger numbers, couple sponsors etc..

I'm not entirely sure of what you're asking, but that could be just because I've got a mild cold. This is a 70 1/2 Camaro from AMT that I converted to replicate a car that I drove in the mid-seventies. This is what was raced on the dirt tracks of Iowa at that time. I used a combination of parts box roll bars and plastruct dowels for the roll cage assembly. On all of the subjects, I cheated with the decals, and simply used what was available.

These two pictures are representative of what was driven in the same area in the sixties. The roll cages in them are simple plastic sprue. All of these cars started as stock AMT kits. My knowledge came from first hand experience of almost living around race cars in my earlier years. The more research you can do, the easier your project will be. I hope this helps, and good luck.

wow love the dirt track one !!!

good call on the sprue, i was thinking with toothpicks i will get the grain of the wood come through the paint so i will use sprue prob..

i think you've got a good idea there and i'd look up some information on the 'net on the subject and for some ideas and inspiration. not sure what you've got over on your side of the pond for events and track days that would have cars like this present but we have the SCCA and NASA(not the space program)over here. i know that BMW and Porsche both have some club events that bring this style of car in too.

for your planned rollbar i'd suggest using plastic rod to construct the scale one from and you may look up Autopower rollbars and cages for some ideas on what the one for your Corvette would look like.

Dave, Ive found a NASA/SCCA Corvette C4 cage, i think im gonna copy this too.

For materials to make it from; i have just been in the bathroom for a slash, and wow, just found something PERFECT ..

-the plastic is flexible to form the cage curves too! I highly reccomend using them as they are the perfect 1/24 thickness ( i measured ), i take credit for this idea lmao..
