What is resin?

im new to this forum so forgive my stupidity, but what exactly is resin? i keep seeing it everywhere and cant figure it out

Resin is a general term for a liquid plastic that can be cast. It is usually a two part mixture of plastic and hardener. It is used to cast model cars and parts.
