mountaindewd Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 I am wanting to build a gasser, probably similar to this truck and want to start collecting parts. Can anyone tell where I can get tires like these? http://media.photobucket.com/image/chevy%20stepside%20gasser/Wupperspeed/GMCGasserTruck.jpg
Ben Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Hey Les, if your refering to the rear tires, they appear to just be regular white wall tires with a wheel that is wider than what is supposed to fit that tire. Coker makes tires like that (in real life)
MikeMc Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 The 41 willys street rod has a set that should work...
Longbox55 Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Whitewall slicks, prehaps cheater slicks from Coker or M&H (yes, they're still around), as noted, mounted ona wheel far too wide. Tires look to be a 10.00-15. I can think of 3 current sources for them, Double Dragster, Double T, and the '62 Catalina, all from AMT. Also, the old Roth kits, original opening doors SWC '41 Willys, Orange Crate '32 Ford, and their assorted variants will have slicks similar to that. On a side note, the truck in the picture is a GMC, rather than a Chevy.
Modelmartin Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 The Modelhaus makes excellent vintage bigs, littles, and pie crust slicks and all can be orered with one or both sides as whitewalls. These are the Cat's pajamas and highly recommended.
mountaindewd Posted June 25, 2010 Author Posted June 25, 2010 Thanks guys! Cheater slicks? Would that be slicks with minimal tread for street legal use? I am not necessarily looking for them to be on extra wide wheels, just have the pie crust/bias ply look on the slicks and the big whitewalls. Andy, I checked out Modelhaus and they have no pics. Not very helpful when one doesn't know how to decipher their lingo of sizes, etc. Pie crust sounds like what I am wanting, maybe with enough tread to be street legal and the whitewalls.
Longbox55 Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 Thanks guys! Cheater slicks? Would that be slicks with minimal tread for street legal use? Yes, it would. With the old style cheaters, the tires had 2, sometimes 3, grooves around the circumference of the tread. Otherwise, there was no tread. So they were much closer to a racing slick than the minimal tread drag radials they use these days.
