crazyjim Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 here's some pics of my '54 Chevy Sedan/delivery. I cut out a large portion of the roof to make a skylight/sunroof. There's acetate on the inside. Wired, fuel lines, battery cables, flocked. Paint is HOK candy organic green. There're some craft shows coming up and I need to make some stained glass wind chimes so I'll be taking a few days away from modeling.
philo426 Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 I like it! The skylight is a very cool feature.Do you remember the original issue from the '70s that has the red, white and blue paint job? That would be cool to replicate!
Sixties Sam Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Nice work! I like the skylight - very creative idea! Great eye-popping color, too! Sam
jedimastergary Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Nice build the skylight makes it look great nice detail on it.
charlie8575 Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Neat idea, Jim. Good execution, too. Out of curiosity, how tough would it be to build that stock? I've always wondered about it, and would love to do a rep-stock s/d. Charlie Larkin
Rick R Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 It could be built stock, but it'd be a pain, that's one of Revell's spindly/twisty/fiddly kits from the late 60s. If it was done well it'd ba a standout.
crazyjim Posted July 12, 2010 Author Posted July 12, 2010 Thank you, thank you. The kit is terrible and doesn't come with much in the way of stock parts. I suppose you could do some kit bashing to get there.
Greg Cullinan Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Love the green and the skylite, and your flocking is spotless(I've started using elmers due to you ) I did an Implala this shade over gold, is that what you did? Did you do the hinge work? Whats up with the firewall in the last pic, looks like it doesn't close off the engine bay to the interior? Sorry for all the questions
crazyjim Posted July 12, 2010 Author Posted July 12, 2010 Yup. HOK gold base with organic green over it and then a coat of Tamiya TS65. The hinges came with the kit. I just had to cut the doors out. Like I said, the kit sucks! No matter what I did, I couldn't get that firewall up any further. The firewall is factory attached to the interior plate with a seperate dashboard. The dash glues onto the inside of the cowl. If I had checked closer sooner, I might have been able to put a piece of sheet styrene in there. Lack of better planning on my part, I guess. No problem with the questions - that's part of why we're all here.
David G. Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Excellent build! I love your choice of colors, reminds me of the customs I saw the car shows I attended as a young lad in the 70's. I couldn't help but notice your service ribbon in the back, Vietnam, right? Regards, David G.
crazyjim Posted July 12, 2010 Author Posted July 12, 2010 Yeah, David G. all my builds will be showing that plate. Vietnam 1969-70 USMC It doesn't show up in the pics but I painted the body line all the way around with Testors gloss green.
ARTEMIS1759 Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Is that all weather outdoor carpet, lol? Sweet build. Like the skylight.
crazyjim Posted July 12, 2010 Author Posted July 12, 2010 No just flocking. There's acetate in the skylight.
Railfreak78 Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 Nice build for one that gave trouble. I am glad you stuck with it. Looks great! Also thanks for touching on the ribbon topic. I was always to embarrased to ask what that was. I knew it was military related but not what for. Salute to a cool panel and our veterans.
cruz Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 Considering how bad you say the kit is, you did a good job on it, looks very good.
crazyjim Posted July 13, 2010 Author Posted July 13, 2010 Thanks agian for the compliments. I'm sure somebody like you Marcos or one of the other builders on my hate list could do a fantastic build from a very inferior kit.
gseeds Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 very nice !!! doing one myself and looking at yours has got me going !!! thanks! nice job !
crazyjim Posted July 15, 2010 Author Posted July 15, 2010 Gseeds, you would be the man to correct the mistakes that I wasn't able to do. Looking forward to seeing your build.
