If Ken Miles traded into a Tipo 61 in 1963 he was getting a badly dated racecar! The Birdcage was only really competitive in 60 and 61. Back of the grid guys used them for many more years and more than a few were fitted with small block Ford motors. Alan Connell of Texas put a Testa Rossa V-12 in his!!!

..was built in the time frame 1953-54, based on the very first Kurtis 500A Indy roadster (made famous by Bill Vukovich Sr, the Fuel Injection Special). Basically, they were 500A chassis, widened out into 2 seaters.
