Tommy Kortman Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 Started a new project this week. This is going to be a box stock build. The IPMS club I belong to has a monthly theme contest. September's theme is "The Orient Express". This means any Asian subject is allowed. I realized that i do not have any Japanese cars built, so I am going to try and get this one done in less than a month.(About a 1/3 of my normal build time). It's Tamiya's Mobil 1 NSX. It looks to be a pretty simple OoB build. You gotta love Tamiya's engineering. Anyway, like I said, this will be a simple build. I am addopting the model rail roaders code on this one..."If you cant see it...dont model it". Please Enjoy. The Engine and rear suspension is a little jewel. It looks complcated, but it isn't. Front Suspension: Chassis plate after painting: Completed body: Body and suspension test fit: First mock-up with wheels and tires. Wheels and tires still need to be finished: Here's a link to a couple more photos. Fotki Mobil 1 NSX
Bill Eh? Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 Your progress looks great so far. Is this going to be a full-on race version with all the decals or street version? I will definitely be watching your progress.
Railfreak78 Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 I've actually wanted one of these kits for a long time. Let us know of any fit issues.
Dennis Lacy Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 Awesome start on your NSX! I really like the discoloration on the exhaust headers. I'm also really impressed that the car sits "wheels tucked" just like the box art - something many kits fall short on. I don't care much for cars from Asian countries, but I think the NSX is one of the best looking modern-day high performance cars ever made and at one point was going through the motions to try and purchase a first-gen.
vizio93 Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 Nice job Tommy, it looks pretty good even without the decals
Modlbldr Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 That is one beautiful car! I love the way it sits. The perfect stance. I need to find one of these kits. More and more I'm liking the looks of the Asian car kits and this one REALLY helps. I'll be keeping an eye on this build. Later-
Tommy Kortman Posted August 16, 2010 Author Posted August 16, 2010 (edited) Your progress looks great so far. Is this going to be a full-on race version with all the decals or street version? I will definitely be watching your progress. This will be the full race version. I guess I shouldn't have labeled that one picture as "completed body". I guess I should have said "waiting for decals". Thanks to everybody for the kind words. Edited August 16, 2010 by Tommy Kortman
Tommy Kortman Posted August 27, 2010 Author Posted August 27, 2010 Got some more progress done on the NSX. THe interior is finished and installed to the chassis. The wheels and tire are mounted, and I have started decaling the body. (This will probably take 2 sessions.) Anyway...here's some more pics, Enjoy! I'll post some more as soon as I get the decals complete. Next up is the glass.
