Hey guys,

can you help with identifying the engine in this pic? Unfortunately it is the only pic I have.

It is a bus, made in Italy by Fiat in the 60's. It has two valve covers which is odd to me.

Is there anything, in kit form, that would be a good starting point, or is this going to be a fully scratch-built thing?

And the million dollar question.....does any body have any reference photos?......(I know, it's like asking for a current video of dinosaurs)

Thanks for you help.

Well I found this. Nothing about the engine per se,but it must be Italian. Hey it's early and the nite is young.

Looking at the exhaust manifold, it appears to be a straight 8 cylinder. Don't know much more about it though.

Wow, David, you made me blush with your title and that you consider me a pro!

Unfortunately, the best I can do is support what Ben said, it appears to be a straight eight because of the exhaust manifold, but that's the best I can do. Hopefully maybe the European guys from across the pond might be able to give you some better info.

I wish I could help. Hopefully more info can be obtained. Do you have a model # on the bus? That might be a something to try. It might lead to finding an options list.

Thanks guys for all your help.

The model number is Fiat 642 RN and it's a transporter (built by a bus company) that Ferrari used to take cars to the track.

Sorry for getting back to you so late. I was in the air.

David,

It looks like a straight 6 cylinder naturaly aspirated Fiat Diesel Engine. I would estimate that it is about 120 to 150 HP considering the year. The red colour is very typical of the colour that frames and engines are painted on new Iveco vehicles even today. There is a slim possibility that it is a Maguirus Deutz engine, but I reakon it to be Fiat since Fiat built their own engines. It has two cylinder heads.

Sorry I can't be any more help.

Thanks. It is from a Fiat bus with body work by Bartoletti. So you are probably dead on.

Is there a kit that I could start with for the engine?
