Ben Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 I was just watching my DVD of Funny Car Summer and was wondering if anyone ever made a kit of Dunn's rear engine Cuda?
biscayne63 Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 Hi, There was a Dunn & Reath front engine kit made by MPC. Competition resins makes a body of the rear engine car, but the one I bought was really warped and needed too much work to be useable.

Did they suggest using the Monogram Troublemaker El Camino chassis as a donor for that resin body or is the builder supposed to scratch build the chassis?
biscayne63 Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 Hey Ben, I would suggest using the chassis from one of the Revell reissue 70's top fuel dragster kits and add parts from the Revell f/c reissues. The comp resin body is strange like alot of their stuff, I started with a Good Stuff '70 Cuda and made my own mods. How advanced are you? I can walk you through it if you want.
Dragline Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 Actually guy I am currently gathering parts for this build. I was inspired to build it after watching FCS just a couple of months ago. Slixx has the body you want. Not certain of the part# but I am using the Pirhana chassis. After looking at still I made from the movie and then spending an evening Googling my brains out I have come to see that the Pirhana chassis is so close and will really only be a snip and cut fit. It will take strene rod to get all the little things right but that is the chassis to use for this build. Remember to make two holes in the windshield for the air tubes and replicate the duct tape they used to hold it in place. Hope this helps. Bob

I'd say I'm pretty advanced. Pretty lazy too! Those two cancel each other out! I'm not in a hurry to build one or anything, I just wondered if one had been made into a kit. I had remembered seeing a Dunn and Reath kit but I couldn't remember the body type. I do appreciate the offer to help though!
biscayne63 Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 Yeah, someone needs to do this car justice and build an all out model of it. Saw one done some place, but they used the comp resin body and it was still all warped. Slixx was going to do the decals for it, you could fudge the f/e slixx decals. Build the 392 red one and the 426 blue one. The red one still exists up in Canada, Jim Dunn dosen't know what happened to the blue one.
biscayne63 Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Here's a link to a comp resins body on ebay. He wants 40 bucks, but I think you can get it through slixx for 20 something. http://cgi.ebay.com/Rear-Engine-Cuda-Funny-Car-Resin-Body-1-25-MINT_W0QQitemZ220666872833QQcategoryZ166798QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3907.m263QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DSI%252BSIC%26itu%3DUCI%252BUA%252BFICS%252BIA%252BUFI%252BDDSIC%26otn%3D8%26pmod%3D360168494030%252B280568555051%252B320564169400%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D5330010248236957067
Dragracer Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 The original front-engined Dunn & Reath 'cuda f/c was put out by MPC, it was a '72 'cuda body that came with a grille cover & a set of '71 'cuda grille decals, the back of the car still had the '72 round tailights. The chasiss to the Monogram Snake & Mongoose cars(1970)while not correct is one of the easiest to convert to rear-engined.
Ben Posted October 2, 2010 Author Posted October 2, 2010 Are there pics of the chassis anywhere on the web?
