Hello,

I’m looking for help in the Portland area donating my brother's model car collection to kids in low income families, big brother modeling and modeling for the disabled. I inherited a large collection of 70s, 80s and 90s models when my brother passed away earlier this year. I would like to see his collection go to good causes if anyone in the Portland area helps disabled builders, mentor children in modeling or other worthwhile charities involving model building this could be a great opportunity. I have several hundred models, many are built and in display cases, there’s also a lot of unbuilt but not sealed box projects (some with painted bodies) and a few dozen unopened/sealed boxes as well. The collection is largely muscle car oriented.

Any locals interested in helping can contact me directly at dean@futrellautowerks.com, I'm also open for other charitable suggestions that can help inspire others to join the modeling hobby, or providing models to those who cannot afford to purchase their own.

I am not looking to sell these and only want to distribute via charitable causes.

Thank you,

Dean Futrell

it is a really nice thing you want to do.just my opinion I would look for a charity that would sell them either on ebay ,they do have a system for doing charity auctions.or at a local auction. the cars would make a lot of kids happy but selling them would feed alot more kids.

You can easily set up a PayPal account to accept donations, though I don't have all the details, but I know that it could be done.

Maybe check with the manufacturers, they may do similar charity and could steer you in the right direction.

Alao maybe a local Recreation center or PAL organization. (police athletic league, national?) I wish you luck and hope you achieve your goal as it is worthy.

Done!

I talked to Richard Brown, a solid member of Scale Auto Builders Assoc. Inc in Portland, Or who works at one of the Boys and Girls clubs there. He has sponsored many build seminars with the kids in in the poorer section of Portland and I have known him for years. I trust he will know what to do and is the best person to talk with Dean. They will come to an agreement... and strangely enough, Richard knows Dean and his business. It was kismet that they should get together eventually.

Please return to your regularly scheduled building program.

Jairus, I didn't make it home from work quick enough to beat you to this. My first thought was Richard as well. When I lived out there it was great to get together with Richard and Bob Robinson and others to go to the Boys and Girls club and do seminars for the kids and general build sessions to help them get involved, stay motivated and generally build an overall enjoyment for the hobby. It was/is a great way to help keep them off the streets and from getting into trouble. It was also great to see Richard bring some of the kids to different shows so they could get the chance to enter their work for potential reward. I miss those times. Good to see this collection going to a good cause.

Thanks for the tips, definitely going to meet up with Richard and distribute part of the collection to the Boys & Girls Group, I would however like to keep this thread going in case there's other causes or needs in our community that could also use some of the cars, so please keep the suggestions coming!

Thank you,

Dean
