Since tamiya is reisuing the McLaren 1/18th scale Can-Am car, is someone going to do replacement wheels & tires for this kit as the ones that come with it are not the correct ones for the car.I've seen die-cast models with the correct wheels, hopefuly someone with do resin or white metal copies.

The question is will anyone do it.

GMP produces 1/18 scale Can Am tire and wheel sets. These are the same that are used for their McLaren M8a diecasts and are much better than whats in the Tamiya kit. They come in two complete sets. The tires are preprinted Goodyear tires with the blue stripe. Prior to the Tamiya kit being re-released, they were easily found on ebay. Try a google search for this item. A vendor just might have them in stock.

If you have ever actually seen the Tamiya Mclaren kit, you wouldn't be anticipating it. It is very toylike and was meant for motorizing. It has little detail. I wouldn't bother with it.

This was the first large scale kit that I built when I was 11 or 12 years old and I still have the model. And yes, it still looks like it was built by a 12 year old. :) Now that it's being released once again, I want to do a better job on this one. Hence the question about the wheels. I saw these cars race back in the day and I was impressed by the speed and the big V8 sound that made the ground shake. My question for 808racefan is , does GMP have a website?

Sorry for my late response. Yes, GMP has a website: www.gmpdiecast.com

Click on Products, Accessories, then Tire Sets. Check out the Can Am tire and wheet sets. Unfortunately they're out of stock, but do a google search for them. Several vendors may have them in stock.

I found a set of GMP's Can Am wheel's on Legacy Motors website. Now my McLaren will look correct. Now if I can find a second set, I'll redo the one I did when I was 12.
