Another good source for tall brown grass is a paintbrush like this 4" wide one, available at stores like Harbor Freight for a mere 99 cents:

The bristles on this brush are actually looped, and less than half their length is visible under normal circumstances. By prying off the metal band, you can free up the full-length bristles and cut them to whatever length you need.
