Cato Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 I've got a Liberty 1/6 SOHC Ford diecast motor which I'd like to correct and detail. I don't want to destroy anything by prying things apart but the only visible fasteners are screws to the base. Any experienced diecast take-aparters care to share the secrets? Thanks,
Harry P. Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 I've taken apart lots of diecasts, but there is no "one-size-fits-all" answer... different models are assembled in different ways. First step is to remove any visible screws and see how far that gets you. Sometimes removing one part reveals more screws that hold other parts in place. Sometimes parts are held together via hidden "one way" snaps that slip together easily but are almost impossible to unsnap without breaking something, sometimes parts are held together with rivets that you have to drill out, and sometimes parts are simply glued together and can be carefully pried apart. These engines don't have that many parts... taking one apart should be pretty easy.
Cato Posted October 5, 2010 Author Posted October 5, 2010 Thank you guys. I knew I'd just have to poke around a little. Wish me luck...
