Hattley Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 I’m working on a 1960 Impala by Revell and more often than not my kits with the opening hoods and trunks are a bust. Those pesky hinges never seem to line up properly and/or doesn’t allow for proper opening and closing. Any suggestions?
Jon Cole Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 I don't have that kit here in front of me, but I did find a photo of the '59... which your kit is based upon, I believe... It appears that those hinges are for 'static' display... used if you want to leave the hood in the open position permanently. I don't think they were ever meant to have any sort of actual function. Many builders will display with the hood off the car for easier viewing.
Hattley Posted October 8, 2010 Author Posted October 8, 2010 Thanks for taking time out to reply. That's it, you may be right. Fishy thought...
MILD Posted October 9, 2010 Posted October 9, 2010 I bluffed it a bit with my hinges on this model. I glued them to the hood and left them unattached at the body. This way I can display hood down, hood up (using a support strut to hold in place) or hood off. It doesn't really answer the question, but I believe they were intended to be used as such? The underside of the hood did have the area for them to be glued to marked- if I remember correctly there is a the outline of where they should go for alignment purposes.
The Modeling Hermit Posted October 9, 2010 Posted October 9, 2010 I don't very often go to the extra work of having operational hoods, but when I do, I use the bent wire method. I think somebody has a tutorial on this site someplace. If I'm not concerned with an operational hood; I remove those pesky little protrudences (I think I just made a new word). That seems to solve the problem, at least to my satisfaction.
