Airbrushing problem

I am just beginning to learn the art of using an airbrush. The last item I painted turned out extremely rough and bumpy, not at all smooth. Did I not have the paint thinned enough, or possibly water in the line, or incorrect air pressure? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

It could be several things, but if the paint is coming out "bumpy" it's drying too fast. The paint droplets need to hit the surface and then "flow" to form a smooth coat. Your paint isn't flowing correctly. You have one or more of these problems:

Paint is too thick.

Air pressure is set too low.

You're holding the airbrush too far away from the surface, the paint is hitting the surface already partially dry.

You're spraying in temperatures too low for the paint to flow correctly (more common when spraying outdoors in cold weather).

Without specifics (type of paint, paint:thinner ratio, temperature, pressure setting, etc.) it's impossible to accurately identify your specific problem. It literally could be any one of the above, or a combination.
