Adam144 Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 When chopping a top on a model, what's the best way to cut the glass accurately or is there a preferred method? I searched around here for a while tonight and came up empty. Lots of info on how to do the roof but I didn't see anything for the windshield or other "glass".
Mike Kucaba Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 It depends on the car,but whatever, the clear plastic is much more brittle that regular styrene so be careful when you do cut it.Use a fine blade saw and go slow. You may have to make some templates too.
MikeMc Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 It does depend on the car. For a 30's sedan most substitute clear acetate and cut with sharp #11 to fit as it has a flat windshield. You can also do this for curved windshields, it is a bit more work but Bill Geary showed us how a while back...he used epoxy and took his time with it. If you want to cut clear plastic, wrap 1 side with wide masking tape (clean and dustfree surface of windshield) mark and cut slowly with a fine tooth razor saw.
Adam144 Posted November 3, 2010 Author Posted November 3, 2010 Great advice I appreciate it. I'll try these techniques, i've got a 1960 Impala kit i'm going to try this on. Then I have a 32 Coupe and an 80's stepside GMC truck I may or may not try this on. If anyone else has anything to add I appreciate it.
