Guest modeler/alarmman Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 Hi all I am not new to building but havent been involved in about 10 years. However I am now ready to get back on the horse and move forward to detailing models. I would like to get some info on what is the best filler to use thats not "smelly" as my wife puts it. Also any other info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance guys for all the help.
highway Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 Welcome back to the hobby, Brian. As for your putty question, I use Bondo Glazing and Spot putty with good results, and it will not stink up the house or be "smelly" as your wife would say. You can find it in the automotive section with the paint and body repair items at Walmart or any auto parts store. There is also another "Professional" Bondo Glazing and Spot putty that comes in two parts that I have read here works good, as well as Evercoat two part putty, but I'm not sure about the "smelly" factor of those. I've also used regular Bondo with good results, but it also ranks very high on the "smelly" list, don't ask how I know this! I will tell you it involved a February day with an outside temperature of about 10 above 0 and every window in the house open!
highway Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 The Bondo two part Professional Glazing & Spot Putty, (which is all I use now), does have an odor, but then so does Squadron one part putty & every other one part glazing/spot putty, (including Bondo), I've used over the years, be it on models or on 1/1 cars. A big part of it is how sensitive someone's sense of smell is. That must be why I don't think the one part Bondo smells, I can't smell!
DanielG Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 You could try Milliput, I don't think it smells at all.
Guest modeler/alarmman Posted November 8, 2010 Posted November 8, 2010 thanks for all the help guys and anything i can ever do, even tho youall are probably much more experienced than myself.
