crazyjim Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 I finished the bathroom & kitchen remodel so now I can get back to modeling. Here's the evil Spirit Dodge D50 mentioned in another post. Obviously, it's going to be way up in the air. Those are Ma's Resin beautiful Desert Dog tires and beadlock wheels. Wire is temporary - I'll be using pins on final assembly. I've also scratch built shocks - 2 at each corner.
Jared Roach Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 looking good so far. I'm not too much into lifted trucks, but I never seen a d50 done like that, so I'll be watching.
Raykreations Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 I'm almost 100% sure that was the same kit I had back in like '82. I couldn't build it because the frame had a twist in it and I didn't have the skills or knowledge to straighten it out. Good luck in your build!
highway Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 I'm going to watch this for sure! I love those wheels, Alan does some great work. One question, are you leaving a two wheel or adding a powered front axle for a 4x4?
crazyjim Posted December 1, 2010 Author Posted December 1, 2010 Gonna leave it as a 2 wheel drive. Painted the frame and springs last night.
W-409 Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 Nice project going, that Dodge Pickup is so ugly that it is pefect basis for big conversion. Just like this project. Very nice, I'm watching this one for sure. Where are those tires and wheels from...?
diymirage Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 thats really starting to look like something there it reminds me of when i first moved to lowell several years ago i was sitting in the back yard thinking of what a nice little hick town this was when i heard what sounded like thunder i turned around and sure enough my nieghbours were drag racing two pickup down the street both of them looked like that and had stacks on them (judging by the black smoke one was a diesel)
crazyjim Posted December 2, 2010 Author Posted December 2, 2010 Thanks fellas. Niko - the wheels & tires are from Al Raab who owns Ma's Resin http://public.fotki.com/cnaind/ Excellent products. Eelco - the sound of thunder will be coming out the pipes of the 426 wedge going in. I might try to make a set of headers from solder. That would be another first for me. Bathrooms & kitchen are done.
TheCat Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 Love how it's coming out looking. Great job!!!
crazyjim Posted December 5, 2010 Author Posted December 5, 2010 I was able to get some work done on my mile high Dodge. The suspension is about complete. My first try and making headers from solder. Now I have to make some kind of collectors.
diymirage Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 looks good thats a nice garage you got there too as for collectors, i would use some heatshrink tube and a piece of styrene tube for the pipe
mopar01lee Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 man that does look good ... i like the wheels . ur headers are cool too , reminds me of the ones i did for my D-50 drag truck .... not to steal ur thread but heres a pic of my headers...i used aluminum tube for my collectors..if u dont want the pic just pm me an ill take it off .
crazyjim Posted December 6, 2010 Author Posted December 6, 2010 Ah heat shrink tubing. Thanks Eelco. I don't have problem with the pic. The wheels are bead locks from Ma's Resin. The Desert Dog tires came from there too! Very nice castings.
crazyjim Posted December 15, 2010 Author Posted December 15, 2010 Got the D50 up on all 4 and the engine in. I took Ma's Resin beadlock wheels and drilled out the spaces. After some Plast-i-cote grey primer and Testor's gloss enamel, I wiped on a coat of the HW Japan ginsing stuff for a polished look. Then I painted the inside of the rims light blue and added air valves. The headers are .062 solder with Evergreen collectors covered with BMF. I used an X-acto knife to thin the walls of the Evergreen tubing. The body is painted, glass installed, and almost ready for the under glass section.
