i wanna cast the big block from the 67 impala i figure i chop the trans and glue the heads and intake would it be easier to cast from the side or halfway across the top

If you plan on chopping the trans off anyways, I would do a 1 piece mold with the back of the engine laying flat on your work surface (that is if the block is 1 solid piece). Any mounting holes, etc you could fill from the backside (inside) with clay or tape. This way you have zero mold lines and zero clean up that you might normally have on a 2 piece mold. You could also cut a small slit in the mold to help you remove your master and copy. I would probably leave off the intake mani so detailing it is easier as a separate piece.
