TonyC Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 I am working on my first big rig model and I am fairly new to the hobby. Should I assemble the truck cab and sleeper before I prime and paint or should I paint the pieces seperatly.
clayton Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 (edited) assemble as much as you can before you paint. Build the frame then paint. build the cab then paint and so on and so on. What are you building or what kind? Edited December 28, 2010 by clayton
TonyC Posted December 28, 2010 Author Posted December 28, 2010 I am building a Italeri Freighliner...
mackinac359 Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 This is what I do: Assemble the cab shell, hood and sleeper box as individual units. Prime and paint. Be sure to paint under the hood, fenders, inside the cab and sleeper including the exposed lower edges. When you paint the cab/hood/sleeper, be sure to apply equal amount of paint to each unit so that the paint is consistent on all parts. Assemble the chassis including axles, springs, shocks, fuel tank mounts as a unit then prime and paint. Just like the 1:1 trucks are built. I leave the 5th wheel and 5th wheel plate off painting it separately so I can get paint to the inside of the chassis and axles. Tim
