Guest Johnny Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 I can remember quite a mix here in town in the late 60's and on into the 70's then they just dissappeared to who knows where! Most common were the Falcon and the Chevy II, and Mustang straight axled cars. But there were quite a few heavy's too. Several Mopars were around along with a couple Galaxie Fords and Impala Chevy's. Of course the 50's Fords and Chevy's were still around too. Most of them were refugees from the drag strip turned street car!
Modelmartin Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 And just for fun, here's a photo of the Flinstone Flyer four door Gasser that was raced: Big sucker ain't it!?! The cool part of this car is the homemade flip front end in fiberglass! His next car was a Studebaker Lark gasser with another homemade fiberglass flip front end!
Terry Sumner Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 Here is something that can really help you. It's the NHRA Rulebook for 1970. Click on this and scroll down to the Gasser section. Read the rules and it will tell you what was legal and what was not. As one other guy said, many modelers use the term "Gasser" way too loosely. It seems anything with a raised front end is a gasser when raising a front end high like that wasn't even allowed in the Gas classes! http://quartermilers.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=rules&action=display&thread=933
