Barbo Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Hi....I always mix dioramas accesories and details with model trains and doll house hobbies. But the most dificult details or accesories that I have come upon ,has been ANIMATION. I like to put a little extra in each of my dioramas , from digital signs , moving figures , monitors, water falls and special efects sounds.....What detail or accesories has been the most dificult to find for you????...................Barbo.
Jairus Posted March 13, 2007 Posted March 13, 2007 Chrome resin! I have been looking and looking for that stuff... I saw an ad somewhere..... Oh! And TIME! That has been in very short supply lately.
Guest zebm1 Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 I'm still looking for that spray paint that turns colored plastic into clear plastic...... Zeb
SpreadAxle Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 I find the small stuff hard to find. You know, the little everyday items. i can find some really cool things for my trucks, but sometimes it's those little things. I'm probably not looking in the right places. Now if I go back to HO scale dioramas, I could probably find everything from soda cans to a dog positioned like he's(how do I say it nicely) using his favorite fire hydrant.
Barbo Posted March 28, 2007 Author Posted March 28, 2007 Hi.............flatbedkw........I have the same dog in 'o' scale jajajajajaj....Barbo.
SpreadAxle Posted April 5, 2007 Posted April 5, 2007 How did I know, Miguel, how did I know. LOL. I knew it was only a matter of time before you could find the dog at the hydrant in a model railroad scale. I am seeing more and more of the "everyday stuff" for detailing, which is good. I've had a diorama idea in my head for years that I want to do, but since the model will be a truck or 2, I may have to scratchbuild some things. I want to do a garage scene with a truck going thru an overhaul. things like diesel engine gaskets, and other items willl definately be from scratch. Shop details are getting easier to find, so it may not be too bad once I get started.
Barbo Posted April 6, 2007 Author Posted April 6, 2007 Hi.....flatbedKW.....of course you can find a dog at the hydrant . It comes in a set of other dogs and cats item num.WD2725 'O' scale ,WOODLANDSCENICS. Have fun with the truck diorama.........Barbo.
SpreadAxle Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 I was making that up to be funny, but like I say, when it comes to model railroad items, you can really get into details. I should've known you could get that item. LOL.
SpreadAxle Posted April 29, 2007 Posted April 29, 2007 Barbo, do you shop at Walthers? You would probably be the guy to ask this. I have some livestock trailer models, and I was wondering of G scale is 1/24-1/25 scale? I want to see if I can find some cows in that scale. I have a funny idea for a dio. I've been looking for cattle in this scale, but I want to be sure G scale is right. This one literally popped in my head just now. I'll be writing this one down and drawing up the idea. But the key is a few cows. I have the truck and trailer with me, so after I finish the two I'm doing now, I will start on my cattle truck. This will be funny.
Barbo Posted April 29, 2007 Author Posted April 29, 2007 Hi...FlatbedKW....yes I buy from Walthers , but also from Oakridgehobbies.com (milkin 'O' Bessie # 785-A2553) ''Preiser'' are the best. You can use 1/24 and 1/25 scale in any animal figure, the hight on the animals are almost the same. You can also check in Toys R' Us , they have bags of animals and most of them acurate in scale ..........Have fun............Barbo.
lambertjr Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 Chrome resin! I have been looking and looking for that stuff... I saw an ad somewhere..... Oh! And TIME! That has been in very short supply lately. I'll second "time". I never have enough for anything.
pepperdrumstix Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 I found bags of plastic animals at the 99 cent store and they looked 1/25 scale to me. I think G scale is around 1/22 scale and all 1/2 inch doll house stuff can be used in 1/25. ZEBM1,I think I bought the last case of that spray that turns colored plastic into clear plastic a few years ago after I saw the ad in a hobby mag, the April issue I think. I had to move so I could not try it out and have it in one of my storage units next to the used time machine I bought at a yard sale at H.G.Well's house years ago. If I get the time I am going to try to repair it and go looking for Yvette Mimieux and then stop and get some old kits. Wish me luck. Patrick
SpreadAxle Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 Thanks for the info pepper. When you fix the time machine, let me know, I have a list for you, lol!!
Darin Bastedo Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 The toughest thing for me to find is Figures. I know there are a lot of figures out there but most of them are either very specialised or expensive. What i would like is some injection molded ordinary people in natural poses. Preferably in street clothes that are generic enough that you could change the look of them with paint.
Mike Whatshisname Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 Darin, There are some affordable kits of figures still available. here are a few for example. The top 2 from Fujimi can still be found rather cheaply in well stocked hobby shops or your local auction site. the Campus Friends kit has been out of production for many years but can still be found on the Bay. The figures can easily be cut and filled to any posityion you are trying to do. It is not very hard. Ken Hamiltons book "Building better Dioramas" is a good source for illustrating how this can be done.
