crazyjim Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 I need to build a truck to drag a car hauler trailer and was thinking an old Mack. Is such a kit available at a very reasonable price? If not, I'll probably look for a Peterbilt or Kenworth - the kind with the real long hood. I plan to check out Michaels and Hobby Lobby later this week with the 40% coupons I have.
Jim B Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 The only Makcs that were reissued in plastic were the R-Series & the Cruisliner from AMT/Stevens International. They've been out of production for a while now, so you won't find any at Michael's or Hobby Lobby. Italeri had a Superliner in plastic, but I don't know when that was reissued. You might be able to find on on eBay. As far as old Macks; I recommend checking out American Industrial Models. He has lots of old Mack conversion kits as well as complete resin kits of the B-61, LJ, & LT. That's about your only chioce for "old" Macks. Illini has some old Kenworths, Internationals, Diamond-T, & Hendricksons; and Eric @ P&P Vintage Kits & Resin Works has some old Kenworths.
highway Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Italeri also has this Mack Superliner. I seen one or two of these still on the shelf of my LHS the last time I was there, and quite often on ebay. I think the LHS had it for around $50 or $60.
crazyjim Posted January 17, 2011 Author Posted January 17, 2011 Thnaks for the info guys. The Mack I was thinking is real old - had 2 single headlights in the front fenders. Since this truck is going to be used only as part of a display for my model car builds, I'm not going to be too fussy about proper wheels/tires. I've seen the post where a guy is selling some real nice looking aluminum wheels but there's no way I'd spend $14.00 on 1 wheel.
Nick Winter Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 what i meant by the tires in the Revell snap truck kits being unuseable is that they are deformed and warped garbage that don't fit on the wheels for anything. go back and look at a few built-ups of those kits and you will see what i mean with the problem. the wheels themselves are actually very nice but Revell has completely dropped the ball with those junk tires. X2 mine where very warped and ended up getting superglued to the wheel itself.
SuperStockAndy Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Everybody's complaining about the tires in the Pete. Mine didn't have any problems.
