GMC Astro95 shorty

This Is the first model I have completed in several years. I have always liked the more utilitarian looking trucks. I did take some inspiration from Twist67's A.T.L. rig, as well as several years of seeing those cool looking shorty/day cabs running the New York State Thruway.

Nice fleet rig. Spotting a real short wheelbase daycab COE anymore is a treat.

Thanks guys. I have always liked the day cab look. Guess now that length limits are not such an issue, day cabs (and COE's in general) are becoming more and more rare.

Well done. I love your signature line too. As for the fate of the cabover, I don't even think they are offered by anyone anymore as a road tractor at least. Although this little guy would've rode rough, they were fun to drive. I drove a short wheelbase Astro myself, although it had a sleeper, but it was a neat truck in it's own way. like the details. I didn't know Corn Flake ran Astros, but it is cool.

Thanks for the kind words guys. I do agree with you Flatbed, I checked Hank's and I do not think I found a single Astro in CF livery in any of the (1000?) photos he has.

To be honest, I picked CF mainly because I know I have a set of decals from the doubles trailer somewhere in this mess of a workshop and hope to find them eventually.

Well Done on your GMC Astro Slimline truck.

I found that cab quite tight to cut down to a day cab.

Going by photo's of the Slim line in real life you wouldn't want to be a big person tring to squeeze into such a tight cab.

You're right about that Ultraliner. I've been in an astro daycab. Just sitting in it I felt cramped, and I was a skinny little 5'8" guy weighing about 155#.

The one i actually drove had a sleeper. They rode rough, but they weren't bad trucks.

You definately captured the CF look with this truck. I know b4 their demise in 2002 they did use GMC Topkicks, so it may be possible they used an Astro or 2.

I'm sure they must have atleast tried them out. There were a few examples of KW's, Macks even a cornbinder.

on the topic of Hank's (hankstruckpictures.com), I have a question I will pose, although off topic of this thread.

There was a picture of some Hall's Macks, there were three (the only three in the frame) that had the "M A" removed from the front of the hood, leaving only the "C K". It does appear to have been done on purpose. Any insight as to why this was done?

Strange, although I've known those to break, leaving some of the Mack name there, Seeing 3 in the same pic from same fleet is weird.

Didn't quite know what the deal was unless someone was going to market a new line of trucks called "MA" (or AM?). I know the bulldogs tend to disappear though.

Incidentally, I do currently have a "husky" bolted to the front of my lawn tractor. She used to ride on the hood of my pick-up many years ago. (I always figured anybody could have a bulldog on their hood, but a husky....now that's different).
