RJWood Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 I am in the market for a good quality air compressor for my airbrush and Im looking to keep it under $100.00. What kind would be best. any recomendations would be great. there is just too many to pick.
DaveInTheHat Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 I got a nice compressor at Pep Boys for $60. It has a 2 gallon tank. I probably should have got the one with a 4 gallon tank for ten bucks more. The smaller tank looked like it would fit in my work area better.
Guest zebm1 Posted March 25, 2007 Posted March 25, 2007 Mine's a 25 gallon, oil-less compressor, but I use mine on my 1:1 cars too.
bob paeth Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 If you have a Home Depot near you, check out the small compressor that they have made by Campbell-Hausfeld. The price is $79.00 and it comes with a brad nailer as well. It has a double tank with a guage that tells you the presssure in the tanks and another guage that you use to regulate the air pressure. It also has extra fittings for tires, balls, etc. I bought one and it works as good as my big compressor and is a lot easier to handle. bob

It came from Canadian Tire and I paid a little more but that was prolly due to the difference between the American and the Canadian dollar.
Marc @ MPC Motorsports Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 If you are going to use this compressor outdoors, any of the above mentioned units will work fine. I just bought this unit at Harbor Freight to use INDOORS. My shop is a bedroom in between my two daughter's rooms. I'm real happy with it so far, and a $20 two year in-store replacement warranty put my mind at ease regarding Harbor Freight quality. Quiet operation. Delivers 0 to 40 PSI constant pressure for a quality finish. Works with all airbrushes. Auto shutoff at 40 PSI, auto-on at 3 PSI Adjustable pressure regulator with moisture trap Direct hook-up with all airbrushes using universal 1/8"-28NPS fitting with 1/4" NPT male adapter Thermal overload protection with automatic reset Rubber suction cup feet for stability Built-in carrying handle for maximum portability Includes 10 ft. coiled air line, Teflon tape, easy-to-read pressure gauge; 1/8 HP, 115 volt, 2 amps, 1750 RPM, Overall dimensions: 9-/14'' L x 5-3/8'' W x 9-1/4'' H, Weight: 7.85 lbs. RJWood Posted March 26, 2007 Author Posted March 26, 2007 Thank you all for taking the time to help me find a compressor. I have both Home Depot, and Harbor Freight stores in my area. I was on the Harbor Freight web site and they had quite a selection of them. Like you Marc @ MPC Motorsport, My shop is a no longer used bedroom, ( both of my kids are grown and gone.) and the compressor will be used indoors. I feel like I am ready now to graduate to the next level of my hobby ability, and an airbrush compressor is now a nessesity, tired of spending money on cans of air that run out in the middle of a paint job and the stores all closed a half hour ago. (thats my luck). Anyway the Campbell-Hausfeld unit sounds good I saw it on the Harbor Freight web site. and another plus is I believe it is made in U.S.A.? Marc @ MPC Motorsports can you tell me what the name brand is on yours? that one looks prefect size. again thanks guys,
Modelmartin Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 I highly recommend that whatever you get make sure it has a tank. It smooths out the delivery and it's nice to not have it running all the time you are using it.
Marc @ MPC Motorsports Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Marc @ MPC Motorsports can you tell me what the name brand is on yours? that one looks prefect size. again thanks guys, Central Pneumatic is on the box, but that is a Harbor Freight brand I think. I've seen several online airbrush dealers selling the same unit as well. I like the auto on/off feature, as it does not run continuously. Good luck with your selection.
Mike Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 Delta tools makes one that's a model # CP200. I just bought it to have to air up bike tires/car tires etc. Comes with an accessory kit for inflating balls, tires, air matresses etc. Runs about $100 depending where you buy it. Also, if you have a Michael's craft store in your neighborhood, look in the Sunday paper for the 40 or sometimes 50% coupons. I got my Badger Whirlwind for $75 a couple years ago this way. It's auto on/off and set at 20 PSI Both of these compressors are oil-less, so maintainence is minimal.
RJWood Posted March 31, 2007 Author Posted March 31, 2007 Yaaah Hoooo! Got my compressor today. its oilless w/2.5gallon tank regulator & pressure gauges 100psi max. with accessories. also got a moisture trap to connect to the outlet for $10.00 the total was $75.27 cant wait to try it out. I bought it at Harbor Freight Tools. thanks to you all I was able to figure out what I needed. this is a great forum! Ron
