The Modeling Hermit Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 My son bought me a model of a Pete 353 today. This is one that I'm not familiar with, and there's very little on the web that covers this model. I would like to tone it down to a serious construction tractor to haul the center drop dump trailer that I'm working on. Does anybody have an good pictures of this in coveralls (work dress)?
Kostas Parchas Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 Hello from Athens, Is it the blue Peterbilt 353 western life of Revell of Germany??? If so, note that the kit is incorrect. You can built a beatifull 359 but not an acurate 353. Tim knows better than me about details and diferences between the 359 and 353. I just know that the 353 has not a tilting hood and of course the RoG KIT has totaly inacurate front feeders. There is a very good German forum, here is the link http://www.wettringer-modellbauforum.de/forum/ and a guy there is biulding this kit as a 359 http://www.wettringer-modellbauforum.de/forum/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=27856 Dispite the fact that this site is in German, pictures talking.... Hope that I was help you. Greetings, Kostas.
The Modeling Hermit Posted March 10, 2011 Author Posted March 10, 2011 Thanks Kostas I'd never actually ever heard of the 353 before, and after doing my searches, I was beginning to have more questions related to it. You just answered them. I'm going to do some more research as I do want to build it with the construction fenders, but it sounds like some scratchbuilding may be needed.
mackinac359 Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 353 info... just look here: Scroll down to near the bottom One pic here The Revell of Germany 353 is way off. 353 does not and never did have a tilt hood. The hood is a butterfly hood. The fenders in the kit are shaped like KW fenders instead of Peterbilt fenders. The majority of 353's were construction and few if any were built with sleepers (although sleepers were available). Anything you need to know about Peterbilt is probably on one of the pages on my site TimsTrucksjust go to the contents page, then click on one of the dozen or so Peterbilt pages. Tim
clayton Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 MY idea would be remove sleeper shorten the frame a tad. spoke rims or steel .Steel on rear spoke on steer. butterfly the hood. fenders from STS if they have them?try the Auto car fenders? grill guard from Auto kit. Fuel tanks from AMT. For what you doing the Revell tanks would look kinda big. Chrome??Humm not a lot,More like a work mule that don't mind a little dirt under the nails. This is my idea have not got too it yet maybe one day.
