Len Woodruff Posted March 26, 2007 Posted March 26, 2007 Is that a Hussien?? I think that is how it is spelled. Can Am?
ismaelg Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 It is a 1964 Mecom Hussein MK1. No relationship to Saddam as far as I know AJ Foyt drove it in 1964
Guest zebm1 Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Actually I think it's mislabeled, tha Mk1 had IIRC 4 downdraft Webers or a F.I. setup....in '65 they changed to a single 4 bbl, which is why that big black air cleaner is "up on tha hood." Zeb and yeah it is John Mecom's Hussein, powered by a Monster Nascar 426...Yeah it's got a Hemi! Did yu know Ismael, that they used a Cooper Monoco frame, let's see ifn this works... "The chassis of the Cooper is basically unaltered, except to accept the 426-cu. in. Chrysler Corp. Hemi V-8 engine, upgraded brakes, and stiffer springs and shock absorbers. The 525 hp engine power is transmitted through a Colotti type 37 gearbox to heavy duty drive shafts and the rear wheels. The car weighs 1,820 pounds, is fitted with larger American magnesium wheels, and is capable of over 200 mph in suitable conditions." - swiped from Conceptzcars.com As I said a Monster Mopar Can Am race car...... Zeb
Modelmartin Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 The Hussein comes from King Hussein of Jordan who was quite a car guy and did sponsor the car and knew John Mecom from the oil biz. No relation to Saddam, the name Hussein over there is like Smith to us.
