W117monte Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 I painted my body today. I primed it with some flat enamel I had laying around then followed with a acrylic laquer top coat. The paint got wrinkled in some spots, but ok in others. Did i use the wrong primer? I will try to post pics. Looks like I'll have to strip this one.
Erik Smith Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 Yes, wrong primer. Enamel does not work under lacquer. Also, just a "flat" paint does not mean primer. Try Plastikote or Duplicolor primers - they are acrylic lacquers, are sandable, dry fast, and will work under lacquer.
MikeMc Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 Eric is right Steve...You can put lacquer under most paints...but not over. Time to put that body in the pond, strip and reprime
W117monte Posted March 21, 2011 Author Posted March 21, 2011 Can you get the duplicolor acrylc laquer primer at walmart?
Erik Smith Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 Can you get the duplicolor acrylc laquer primer at walmart? Don't know - but check the automotive section. You can get duplicolor at automotive stores - NAPA, Oreilly's, etc. Plastikote is more difficult to find but some auto parts stores stock it. Check their website for dealers in your area.
