Dr. Cranky Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 Here's an older model which is still as rusty and gunky as the day Doctor Cranky put it together . . . and it was a bit of fun to do and detail . . .
butchey Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 Looks Awsume! but some motor oil on a rag bring paint bact But collects lot of Dust.
Dr. Cranky Posted May 1, 2011 Author Posted May 1, 2011 LOL! I almost think that for these kinds of builds that are rusty, gunky and junky, they should not fit "Under Glass," but maybe have a category called under "GUNK, JUNK & RUST."
DRG Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 Never really thought about it before but I wouldn't have to worry so much about dust if I built like this.
Dr. Cranky Posted May 1, 2011 Author Posted May 1, 2011 Oh, Man, that's EXACTLY the beauty of this kind of build. You gunk it, junk it, rust it and put it up on the shelves and time and mother nature take care of the rest!
Clay Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 What ever happened to your warehouse Doc? Nice job on the old beater!
outlaw035 Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 (edited) thats awesome Dr.C....and the detail is amazing...me likes it alot.... and i like the thought of the rust...gunk...junk...category Edited May 2, 2011 by outlaw035
Dr. Cranky Posted May 2, 2011 Author Posted May 2, 2011 Well, maybe we can run it by the Big Kahuna and see what he thinks. But yeah, a thread where those of us hang out to discuss gunk, rust, and junkers--yeah, sure beaters and almost-gone daily drivers are welcome too! And if it were up to me, I'd call the new section, can you guess? LONG LIVE RUST! ;)
Jim Gibbons Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 Love it! I definitely have to get a copy of your book. I mostly build "shiny and new," but I think it might be fun to do something different. I've built some armor, so have a little experience in weathering, but need to learn more. I've already built a '58 Plymouth close to "Christine," and have another unbuilt. I should build it in the condition Arnie first sees it in the movie. Hmmmmm.
PTEAZA Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 great detail,on the old pick up. A before build of Christine would be great to see (watch out you shitta's)
zelkam Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 I love this kind of madness! Full details !! beautiful pick up
Dr. Cranky Posted May 3, 2011 Author Posted May 3, 2011 Thank you, as I've said many times before to all who build shiny, taking a break from the gloss and the buffing and doing a rat rod or a junker or a daily driver will help keep your skills sharper than a scalpel.
Raul_Perez Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 Now that's exactly what I expect to see when I look at one of Cranky's builds...not some shiny, pretty, smooth paint job... Great work, as usual, Virgil!! Thanks for sharing,
Dr. Cranky Posted May 3, 2011 Author Posted May 3, 2011 LOL, thanks Raul. Yes, Doctor Cranky has spent the last year switching back and forth, it's a wonder he doesn't get whiplashed!
Ira Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Great Build Dr.! The Weathering & Photography, both are are Perfect... Well Done.
John Teresi Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Great Build Dr.! The Weathering & Photography, both are are Perfect... Well Done. X2........love it Dr.
Dr. Cranky Posted January 11, 2012 Author Posted January 11, 2012 Thank you, John, that's an oldie but goody. It's about a decade old, but it's still holding up well.
Dr. Cranky Posted January 12, 2012 Author Posted January 12, 2012 Thank you, Al. I was inspired by Ken Hamilton's infamous 50 Chevy Truck, and these kinds of vehicles are just a lot of fun to build.
