bitner Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Here is the latest scratch built piece of logging I've been working on in 1/25 scale. It's a Skagit self propelled 110' tower yarder. These things are monstrous, and they just look awesome. I drew up some scale plans on Autocad for it and that and a ton of reference pics is what I'm using to build it. more to come as I add to it. Cheers: Bill
Willie Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Very awesome scratchbuilding here i will keep up with this one Willie
Harry P. Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Very impressive scratchbuilding! But what exactly does that thing do in real life?
highway Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 (edited) But what exactly does that thing do in real life? I guess you've never watched "Ax Men" on the History channel, have you!?!? The yarder pulls the logs up or down the mountain to the landing area where they are proceesed and then loaded on the trucks. Here's a YouTube video of a similar tower in action, even though not logging. And one actually pulling logs. Edited May 16, 2011 by highway
Harry P. Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 "Ax Men?" Never heard of it. History Channel? Not a fan. But thanks to the videos, I get what that thing does. Basically drags stuff. A giant portable winch, sort of.
Tony Bryan Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Careful Bill, With all that hard work, You may just about be come a TRUE scratch builder Nice work so far, that is going to look really cool when rigged,
