Here is the latest scratch built piece of logging I've been working on in 1/25 scale. It's a Skagit self propelled 110' tower yarder. These things are monstrous, and they just look awesome. I drew up some scale plans on Autocad for it and that and a ton of reference pics is what I'm using to build it.

But what exactly does that thing do in real life? :D

I guess you've never watched "Ax Men" on the History channel, have you!?!? B):D

The yarder pulls the logs up or down the mountain to the landing area where they are proceesed and then loaded on the trucks.

Here's a YouTube video of a similar tower in action, even though not logging.

And one actually pulling logs.

"Ax Men?" Never heard of it.

History Channel? Not a fan.

But thanks to the videos, I get what that thing does. Basically drags stuff. A giant portable winch, sort of.

With all that hard work, You may just about be come a TRUE scratch builder :)

Nice work so far, that is going to look really cool when rigged,
