sportandmiah Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 Curious to which type of clear I should use for a 59 Cadillac. I used Duplicolor gray sandable primer, and a few airbrushed coats of Tamiya X-13 acrylic Metallic (thinned with lacquer thinner). I have Future, but want something that is stronger and can be wet sanded and polished. Should I use a Duplicolor brand, or a model car brand? Please give make and type as I am clueless to this. Thanks
Guest Markus355 Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 if you want ultimate, show car gloss, and ease of wetsanding. get yourself some automotive urethane. the stuff is awesome. but expensie (about 40 bucks for a quart of clear and activator) and REALLY bad for you so a good mask is a must. spraybomb route? model master ultra gloss clear or testors one coat Wet look clear are both very good, and look great shot thru an airbrush ive used duplicolour clear and i really didnt like it at all.

Drake69 Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 You can sand and polish Future. After about 3 dips or so with time inbetween for evening out, it'll sand and polish beautifully.
Guest Markus355 Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 compared to an actual clear coat type of paint, future looks like ######.
sportandmiah Posted June 12, 2011 Author Posted June 12, 2011 Can any canned clear be decanted an airbrushed? I'm assuming they don't need to be thinned... But I they do new thinning what would I use?
Guest Markus355 Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 yes, the testors/MM clears can be decanted and airbrushed i suppose you could get away w/out thinning, but i always do, and i use just general no-name lacquer thinner (i buy it by the 5 gal pail)
CEKPETHO BCE Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 I noticed that testors one coat wet look is a lacquer. Can it be shot over acrylic or enamel paint?
CEKPETHO BCE Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 Are they easy to work with? i've had bad experiences with testors spray cans... maybe it's lack of skill on my part, but they spray kinda funky... Never had the same problem with tamiya spray cans

Never had the same problem with tamiya spray cans their laquers are pretty good better than their enamel line by miles
MikeMc Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 I noticed that testors one coat wet look is a lacquer. Can it be shot over acrylic or enamel paint? NO.......You can shoot the others over lacquer, but unless you know all the tricks LACQUER OVER LACQUER!!
sportandmiah Posted June 17, 2011 Author Posted June 17, 2011 NO.......You can shoot the others over lacquer, but unless you know all the tricks LACQUER OVER LACQUER!! I sprayed Testors one coat wet look over Tamiya X13 acrylic with no problems.
Guest Markus355 Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 yeah the testors "lacquers" arent very hot at all. ive shot them over just about any paint you can think of and it hasnt hurt anything
