Six-Fo Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 (edited) Hey again, I'm moving to university this autumn so I decided to build my favorite model kit of all times during the summer since I'm not sure how much time I'll have for modeling in university. Anyways, will gonna be lowrider, with crazy paintjob(zero paints cobra viking blue as a main color), hopefully my skills are sharp enough to add some details too(havent built anything for at least half a year). Nice to come back with my favorite car and lowrider scene. Edited June 30, 2011 by Six-Fo
DiscoSpud Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 Sounds sweet man, I'm going to uni myself soon so i'm just gonna stock up on kits and resin pieces and go nuts when i get back down here.
Janne Herajärvi Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 Sounds really cool. I have lowrider project also on my table now, mine is `62 Impala. Im sure i follow your project and will share my own tinkering as well. Impalas suit very well to lowrider subjects. Hey greets from Finland
Six-Fo Posted June 16, 2011 Author Posted June 16, 2011 Thanks guys. Yeah Janne, I've been building lowriders since 2007 and they're the biggest passion for me. 64 Impala has been my dream car and I've built it like 3-4 times http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q169/siim1234/koik/P1060131-1.jpg
Guest Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 Looks like you're well prepared to build it. To me, the '64 Impala is the icon of lowriders. I'll be watching this one.

Six-Fo Posted June 17, 2011 Author Posted June 17, 2011 Yeah it is the icon, thats the car that brought me to lowriders and its been my dream 1:1 car ever since. I've been laying down some pinstripe tape tonight, hopefully I can shoot few coats of paint tomorrow.
Six-Fo Posted June 18, 2011 Author Posted June 18, 2011 I've been working on the body this week but all my hard work didn't give me results. I had no idea the primer was so faulty until today when I shot few coats of base paint on the body. Zero Paints are really sensitive for the surface so any flaw on the primer will show up. Plus I pulled off the pinstripe tape too late when the paint was already too dry, that's why the sidestripes are so rough. Oh well, need to repaint the body now.
LAone Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 sucks about the paint siim. i know your not going to give up, so im looking forward to more.
Six-Fo Posted June 26, 2011 Author Posted June 26, 2011 Got it repainted . And I love how the side design came out this time. Now time to open a beer and design the roof patterns
Jim Gibbons Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Nice paint and color choice. I'm not a huge lowrider fan, but I enjoy the paint jobs and graphics done on them in this forum, and the cars used as subjects are often some of my favorites. Looking forward to seeing the progress on this. I just raised my beer as a salute!
Six-Fo Posted June 27, 2011 Author Posted June 27, 2011 Thanks Got something done today, but its not completed yet, still lot of tape to lay down.
Six-Fo Posted June 30, 2011 Author Posted June 30, 2011 Got some painting done today, still a lot of work to do tho. Pictures after the first one are done with old phone so sorry about blurry stuff.
BKcustoms Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 Wow! thas some impressive paintwork! where do you get that skinny masking tape?
Lownslow Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Wow! thas some impressive paintwork! where do you get that skinny masking tape? tape 2 razor blades together the more you pitch them inwards the thinner you can make it
made007 Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 tape 2 razor blades together the more you pitch them inwards the thinner you can make it how's that?, what blades?.....please
Lownslow Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 how's that?, what blades?.....please siim is using the last one its 2 #11 blades pitched inwards with a piece of styrene works great for a lot of stuff ive only used mine once
Six-Fo Posted July 1, 2011 Author Posted July 1, 2011 Thats right, I usually put the tape between the blades instead of styrene to bend the sharp edge of blade more closer so I can make more thinner line.
Six-Fo Posted July 1, 2011 Author Posted July 1, 2011 Got some more work done First pattern for today, something simple: Second pattern, with waterdrop effect Put some waterdrops on the paint And paint it some enamel black on them in very sharp angle. Didnt turn out very good but I tried this first time in my life so not too bad. Let the water dry up(in my case in sunshine) After water dried up, it looked like this And added some shades
pharr7226 Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Incredible masking job. I like the water droplets also. But, you might consider smaller droplets on your next job so they are a little more in scale. There is a good water droplet video on youtube. Nice work Six-Fo.

Yeah I was wondering the same thing how big I should do the droplets, but I decided to make big ones because if they were smaller, you could only see some black dots and you wouldnt understand if they were droplets or not.
crazyjim Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 I like the waterdrops. Do you have to clear after every phase of masking?
Six-Fo Posted July 1, 2011 Author Posted July 1, 2011 Nope, just rip off the tape and start another one. Sometimes it pulls off the previous paint but it doesnt happen very often if you have good tape and good paint.
Six-Fo Posted July 4, 2011 Author Posted July 4, 2011 A little step by step for another pattern My paintjob is completed But I wont show it bigger before I get the clear coat on.
