Brad-M Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Gents, I am looking to add stripes over the hood, roof and trunk to my Silver Frost painted '67 Mustang GT and was wondering if there was a standard width for them? TIA Brad

TIA Brad 2" Constant measurement between stripes 9 1/4" At bottom of front lower valance 9 1/4" Leading edge of the hood 10 1/2" Bottom of the windshield 10 1/2" Top of the windshield 10 3/8" Top of rear window 10 1/8" Bottom of rear window 10" Leading edge of trunk lid 10" Bottom edge of rear valance These are the specs for the 1:1 stripe, of course. They have a very subtle taper. 10" scales out to 1/4"0.4" in 24/25th scale, I'd just go with that unless you have calipers or a mic... 2" is 0.080", so I'd use a piece of 0.080" styrene strip as a guide (either when placing your masking, or cutting a thin piece of masking - depending on if you're painting the stripes or the body color first) Edited June 28, 2011 by Brett Barrow
Brad-M Posted June 26, 2011 Author Posted June 26, 2011 Hi Brett, Thanks much for the reply. Is there a standard measurement of gap between each stripe? Thanks again Brad
Brett Barrow Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Hi Brett, Thanks much for the reply. Is there a standard measurement of gap between each stripe? Thanks again Brad 2", remains constant the length of the stripe. It wasn't that clear in my response, which was copied directly from a Shelby/Mustang restoration parts supplier. As I said, 2" = 0.080" in scale, so if you have some 0.080" styrene, that's a handy guide to spacing the stripes correctly.
Brad-M Posted June 27, 2011 Author Posted June 27, 2011 Doh! Sorry Brett, your initial post was clear, I wasn't focused to see it. Thanks for waking me up. Cheers Brad 2", remains constant the length of the stripe. It wasn't that clear in my response, which was copied directly from a Shelby/Mustang restoration parts supplier. Brett Barrow Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 Just realized I made a mistake in the scale calculations - 10" is not 1/4", it's 0.4".
Brad-M Posted June 28, 2011 Author Posted June 28, 2011 Oh well...I guess my paint job is hooped then...thanks man...j/k Brett, I figured it was almost half an inch, so no sweat. Cheers Brad Just realized I made a mistake in the scale calculations - 10" is not 1/4", it's 0.4".
Brad-M Posted June 29, 2011 Author Posted June 29, 2011 Hey Mark, that's even better. Thanks ! Brad I didn't check all the dimensions, but the only "standard" width was what Shelby published in their supplement to the '65/6 GT350 and I'm guessing that's what was cited here. Obviously the '67 is a different body, and no '67 Shelbys (or regular Mustangs) had stripes applied from the factory. Dealers certainly painted them on (in fact they're listed as a dealer-installed option in the '67 Shelby literature) but there was likely a lot of variation since it was up to each dealer or body shop to lay them out and they may or may not have followed the earlier Shelby guidelines. Which is a long way of saying you're safe to eyeball them and make them look how you want beacuse there's no real "right" or "wrong" way to do it.
