I don't know if this is correct, but I just recently got a couple Olds from that era that were started from a friends collection that had passed away, and he had them painted in a gold color. I'd like to know if that is correct or not too! :)

Might be red, I know '68 Hurst cars had red 455's. That were Not supposed to be put in the A bodies according to head office.

Nick

Edit: Olds Div installed them, not Hurst, but they led Head office to beleive that it was Hurst doing the 455 swap.

No '70, I'm pretty sure the OP either means the '72 or '69.

Nick

BTW H/O years are '68-'69, '72-'74, '79, '83-'84, '88

Edit: '72 on cars only existed due to '71 Challenger pace car crash at Indy.

OK, now I'm cornfused, which doesn't take much!!  :D

What is the engine in the Johan 70 442?

This is one of the kits I got from my friends collection, and he had already painted the engine in a goldish tone, no doubt to replicate the bronze engine color, but from the info on the web site the only engine matching that is the gold painted SB 350. Was he correct and the kit has a SB, or do I have to repaint it? I'd like to finish the build the way he had already started it, but I'd like for it to be correct too. :)

By the way, what is the engine in the AMT 69 Hurst? I have one of those too unstarted, but there were a couple in my friend's collection he had started and had the engines of those in the goldish/bronze color too. Were those correct?

IIRC the '69 H/O had a 400, and all of them that were installed in 4-4-2s and H/O's were gold. The engine in the '70 4-4-2 is a 455, and it should be metallic blue.My oldest brother has a '70 ragtop 4-4-2 that he's owned since 1981, and his 455 is blue.

Great, and my friend did such a nice job painting that engine in the Johan, too!

At least it isn't as bad as the Ferrari I got from his collection that I have to figure out what he painted the body so wonderfully and didn't paint the side mirrors!!

I just ended up painted the engine in my model gold. I figure so what if it ain't "correct" I'll just lie and tell people Hurst built the engine too lol
