mad4kits2 Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 How do I start to make wheel arch/fender extensions on 1/24th scale car kits. I am looking to take a basic saloon e.g a mustang from U.S. or a Audi A8 from Europe, and just extend the said wheel arches to cover the wheels.I anticipate using sheet plastic and filler of some sort, but any technique used would be useful, maybe there is a site already dedicated to this. Thanks to you in anticipation for a reply Dave.S. aka mad4kits2
Mike Kucaba Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 I've been using strip plastic and 30 minute epoxy mixed with micro-balloons. Here's an example.(hope this works)
Drake69 Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 ^^^ New talent I need to desperately learn. UNREAL!!!!
shucky Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Mike that looks really great. Any issues sanding the micro balloons / 2 part epoxy mix?
Mike Kucaba Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Not at all. On the '60 Ford after I trimmed off the two ends where the epoxy flowed down,280 grit dry was all that was needed. This filler, and Magic Sculpt (or aves) has become my goto fillers. I use the two-part polyester stuff more now as a skim coat. The epoxy/MB mix(I only recommend the 30minute type)can also be used as a backer in areas you want to reinforce and don't want sand or can't get at.I think it could even be used too cast some small parts.
