Mal.au Posted May 21, 2006 Posted May 21, 2006 Hi Guys just about Finished this one I would love to hear your comments Heres a Question How can I make those treaded tires look road used, I know how to make slicks look used is it the same, if so how do you get down in the tread to make that look used?
MrObsessive Posted May 21, 2006 Posted May 21, 2006 Great looking rod Mal!! As far as the "used" look for tires................I use 220 grit sandpaper and scuff them up as much as I can. To get in between the treads, simply fold the paper in half to sand in there. On real cars however, you'll notice that especially on a dirt road, the tread in between is usually untouched Some folks have taken a "tool" to hold the tire in place on a dremel and then "turned" the tire on sandpaper.......be careful with this method though as the tire can fly off and maybe hit the cat or something! This can be time consuming, but it does add a realistic touch to a model.
MonoPed Posted May 21, 2006 Posted May 21, 2006 Very cool, Mal - great color choice! For treaded tires, I sand the tread like a slick, clean the "dust" off, and hit with a couple light coats of Dullcoat. Brian
