Nick Winter Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Can I clear my promo so that the trim work and decals seal to it? or? Nick
Nick Winter Posted September 1, 2011 Author Posted September 1, 2011 or you could polish the plastic and not paint it. or, if i were you, put it away for some other time. not how I said "Bare" promo, meaning sans paint, keeping the molded color. Yes, use pledge with futureshine. It will never yellow and your promo will be protected for good. will do, thank you.
Nick Winter Posted September 1, 2011 Author Posted September 1, 2011 Thank you for the full explanation, very helpful.
Harry P. Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 Future, or whatever it's being labeled as these days is not everything people are making it out to be as some sort of miracle clear finish. it can discolor and it can also crack. it has everything to do with how the finished model is taken care of afterwards and what it is exposed to. like i said earlier, i'd put it away for some other time. Future is nothing more than clear acrylic. It doesn't discolor over time. And it doesn't crack either, at least not in my experience.
Harry P. Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 Future, or Pledge with Future shine is also, water modified acrylic copolymer Diethylene glycol ethyl ether or monoethyl ether and, Tributoxy ethyl phosphate slightly more to it than just clear acrylic And my guess is that it's a whole lot safer than any clear lacquer or enamel.
scalenut Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 (edited) if your worried about yellowing, you can airbrush it with some archival grade gloss varnish from the hobby/craft stores. they make great clears and mattes for airbrushing , you can get it as an acrylic. I use the stuff on my aircraft models ,, haven't tried it on a car yet., but plan to try it on the next one. Edited September 6, 2011 by scalenut
Harry P. Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 you have a vaild point Harry and it also probably is safer because of it's application method out of the bottle and brushed, dipped or mopped onto the surface. a good question is, how does it's "safety" change when it's turned into an atomized spray? Future does not come in an aerosol spray can, but what if it did? i'm sure there would be even more additives so that it was a sprayable product, add to that the propellant required for it to be in that spray can. another good question is, is it safer than Tamiya's clear acrylic in jars? The only point I was making is that Future is clear acrylic, not a lacquer or an enamel. Yeah, it's not 100% pure acrylic, it has certain additives. But I would assume that any "hobby" acrylic also contains additives. As far as whether or not it's safer than Tamiya acrylic? Don't know, but my guess would be that a clear acrylic is pretty much the same no matter who makes it as far as any health hazards are concerned. I doubt that Future would be any more dangerous or hazardous than any "hobby" acrylic.
Nick Winter Posted September 6, 2011 Author Posted September 6, 2011 I ended up only using the future over the "Stickers" to prevent them from peeling off over time. Nick
