MikeMc Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 What ratio of India Ink, water , and Alcholol work best as a wash.....I keep trying different mixes...at least they come off after they do not work. I have used Tamiya flat black mixed 1 : 9 and sticks well. The Ink ?????? Any thoughts? I'm using Higgens non waterproof black....seems to mix well...
VW Dave Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 It's been a while since I used India ink as a wash, but I seem to recall I used it roughly 50/50 with water....maybe a smidge heavier on the ink, but I intentionally kept it fairly dilute for easy cleanup of mistakes.
Danger Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 India ink is already fairly thin. I have used India ink in the past and agree with the 50/50 mix for a wash. Danger
MikeMc Posted September 10, 2011 Author Posted September 10, 2011 At 50 /50 It does not flow well, I know many use a mix other than water. I had a bit better luck with Auto Air thinner and water
Skydime Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 (edited) I guess I just do things the hard way. On chrome, I just get a bottle of testors flat black, start in the center, and brush it on thick so it runs into the creases. Then I just wipe off the rest. Of coarse, I've seen areas where I needed the ink so reach remote areas of parts too. Too bad I don't know of anywhere local that sells it. Edited September 20, 2011 by Skydime
Dr. Cranky Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 There are some new washes out there that work very well too. Vallejo black and brown washes are excellent. And they can be diluted and cleaned up with water.
