Here's an old build from around 1975-76. It was sold as an AMT but somehow I thought it was a JO-HAN kit, reboxed. Anyone who knows the story? And isn't this the one being reissued right now?

The strange paint job is red and yellow, sponged to get that mottled effect. The side panels were masked off, and the black sprayed. Decals were applied, and the whole thing was then cleared. Pactra paint was used. It was a fun quick build, and I used only the parts and decals from the kit. I flipped the numbers around to get 06, instead of 90 as it was supposed to be.

BTW, what does this (pau) stand for, when it comes to finished models? Sorry, being a foreigner it's an expression I've never heard before. And I think I've been around quite a while to pick up a lot from the english language....

Wow, thanks for the info, Mark! I believe I had the opportunity to check both the AMT and JO-HAN kits around those years, and that's why I thought the parts looked identical to the JO-HAN kit.

So it's an old MPC being reissued. Did you know quite a few MPC kits were issued as Airfix kits here in Europe, like that '65 Corvette. I have a very nice box with Airfix printed as the manufacturer. It's identical to the MPC box, have that as well, but it's not in the same condition. The kits are not complete, I'm a bit of a box art nut....

Oddly enough, the Johan kit features a factory stock body with all emblems and trim. The MPC (soon Model King) one is NASCAR correct, and the body should, as far as I can tell, require nothing but basic prep to be ready to build.

Yet there is as far as I know no factory stock chassis to build a street car with the Johan body!

I have three of them, but no MPC ones, yet. I'll be getting a case when they come out.

Very interesting paint scheme on your build!

Here's some pics I took of the test shot of the forth coming Model King Torino. As you can see the body has all the accurate NASCAR trim already on the body. The Johan body was molded with all the stock trim. By the way I have one of each and the body proportions are practically identical. In fact you can swap parts back and forth between the two kits and the MPC body will drop right onto the more accurate Johan chassis if you desire. The hood on the MPC kit has the lump from the GT scoop while the Johan kit has a flat hood. My reference pictures from the era show both being accurate depending on the team. Maybe some resin caster will reproduce the Johan hood since it drops right onto the MPC body.
