trogdor Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 Nice that he got it back, I do feel bad for the guy who bought it off Ebay though. After 16 years I would have never thought he'd get it back.
Darren B Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 Yeah the guy in Utah got ripped off too, that really sucks, you buy a car that you would never think was stolen in the first place. Makes you really think about using ebay for buying a car now! But if you see what you think to be a clean title how would you know? Sucks for him but the guy that it really was owned by good for him cause after a few years a stolen car usually doesnt come home.
Guest Johnny Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 I have read on other sites he didn't do due diligence not making sure when he bought it but then it wasn't like he was paying 30 or 40 grand for it! But an inspection (a thorough one) would have disclosed the issue. Now the guy who bought it, who is out 16 grand already and will have to go after the one he bought it from (or ebay's insurance if applicable) wants to take the 10 grand of improvements off of it! I have seen this played out in court before and the person lost as the Judge said since the car could not be put back as was before the improvements there was no reasonable expectation of recovering the money spent on the improvements! I got stuck years ago on a 72 Z28 that wound up being a retagged stolen vehicle! I lost 2800 bucks because the guy I bought it from was in jail for grand theft auto! Part of his plea agreement was he gave the names of as many people as he could that he sold cars to! Mine was on the list! I still wonder why he had a list??? Maybe for future cars to steal after they get fixed up???
